Fictional movie where a viral virus breaks out world wide with a 25% death rate. Interesting the miss handling by the various governments.

So they used some semblance of truth.

Never heard of it, but if its anything like the Walking Dead series, where they skipped the portion of reality where gov failed, it could be the same show, just different title.

But seriously, it does show what can happen when gov breaks down, people put too much faith in gov, which is just a bunch of people like you and I, we've never met and could give a rats ass about us, unlike friends and family.

In truth, whether its local or national, when gov fails, you are on your own, you can forget about services like water, sewer, gas, electricity etc. these employees are looking out for their families first, duty second to family which always comes first.

"Contagion" did point out some interesting political points of a hot potato, as did the movie "Blindness".

Both movies did graze the issue of how much personal freedoms can be affected when irresponsible politics and band aid government actions go awry.

Do you recommend it as a movie to watch?  Toy

Both films were good, and I would choose to see them again. Seeing them again knowing the plot twists will let me think about some of the details i must have missed. "Blindness " recieved a lot of flack from the organizations protecting the blind, and that might be why the movie did not do as well as it could have. Neither film is a "How To" but more of a "What if" perspective, they both stimulate much thought. At least they did for me. There are some scenes that might be disturbing to some, especially in "Blindness".

I will definitely put them in my Netflix queue.   Toy

Hope you enjoy Contagion. I think it scared my wife.

If and when you or anyone here watches either or similar films, they might make a good discussion point.

Thought I tried to start that with this thread. Didn't get much traction. Most aren't familiar with the movie.

Guess we'll have to wait till more see the movie.

Interesting, from a reality standpoint, would a rapidly spreading disease actually hit underdeveloped areas more than developed areas? Have we civilized segments become to sanitized to survive?

Movie portrayed it as the civilized areas were hit the hardest first. That our mass transit and airline traffic worked against us. I'll keep any further comments to avoid giving away too much of the movie.

I am not sure how to pull quotes down from tother posts, and I will try not to give away the plot points in either film. Underdeveloped areas might get hit hard by some contaigens, but being isollated the diseases won't spread as easily. Water boune contaigens might spread more easily, as in the movie "Sahara", but some like mad cow and hoof and mouth disease have been pretty much containable and in the case of hoof and mouth in the USA, there are centers that constantly fight to defeat it. Plum Island is one of the centers for that. But as we are hearing now, more people from under developed countries are bringing back old favorites like measles. It is interesting we as a country require innoculations of our own, but do not require visitors or immigrants to be vaccinated from childhood diseases.

Got it yesterday, Netflix, and watched it last night.  Parts I liked but almost felt like the ending was anti-climatic.  Toy
