And ironically enough, your highly generalized statement's evidence is...?

Why is one considered overpaid, is it not incumbent upon all of us, to bargain for the best deal we can get?

I'm curious, why is it any of your business what someone makes, as long as it is legal?

In the underpaid column I would add doctors. Some might find this to be wrong but in the last 15 months, i've gone through two major operations, open heart surgery and right carotid artery surgery and those doctors literally saved my life. There's a topic on another forum right now and the OP asks ,"isn't $200,000 a year enough?" No doctor I know could set up an office today and pay their malpractice insurance for that amount.
Any time ya get to thinking about yourself as someone of great importance,  just try ordering another mans dog around.

In other words, you're advocating for Marxist ideals in wealth redistribution and hate Capitalism, because someone you don't respect makes more money than you do?

Take your sports player, would you rather the investors/owners take a bigger cut of his income and leave their money maker player, of which does all the work and risks his health, take a cut in pay?
Many of these overpaid athletes as you refer to them, couldn't get work shining shoes, if it wasn't for their one skill, sports.
But you'd rather somehow, cut their pay and see it magically go to a teacher?

In order for this to take place, you'd have to institute communism, is that what you're advocating?

The OP list is a frank repudiation of the free market. SFF is stating in the clearest terms that the free market shouldn't exist.

Anyone in the "overpaid" classification would be a fool to take less then he was offered. Anyone in the "underpaid" classification probably has more balls than SFF, and does it because he/she loves it.

Let's see, where's the garbage can...?

You are never overpaid as long as someone is willing to pay you that amount. Just as you are never underpaid if that's the best you can get.

Precisely. And thank you, Giles, for saying so clearly what I meant to say.  :tounge:

FYI, i paid my surgeon's bill for 3 hrs. during which he did a three way bypass on my heart and repaired a leaky valve. Total paid, $3750.00 I find that cheap, for competent surgery.

Obamacare is gonna burst your bubble, I think.

I find it odd that you don't include Politicians in the latter....most of them are rich when they get into office, most of them become millionaries afterwards many after doing their damndest to make the rest of us poor.

Most heartily concur...most become millionaires despite being paid less than 200K per year (174K for Senate and House last I looked).

Am I not allowed to comment on societal trends?  Or is this yet another exercise of free speech deemed "treasonous and unamerican" by your political machine?

In other words, you feel that applying labels and strawman distortions is your solution to actually refuting my points?

Or, rather, that our culture is overly obsessed with sports, to the point of openly deriding intellectual pursuits and worshiping dumb jocks.

Your ability to reason logically is pathetic:

"If you cut athletes' pay, they won't have a job anymore!"

No, just create an educational system that puts an increased emphasis on academic pursuits, and less an emphasis on college sports.  There are high schools who can't afford to buy computers, yet spend countless thousands on their football programs, for fuck's sake.

Or do you think that we need more Chris Humphreys and less Jonas Salks?  Is the former a greater contribution to mankind?

This statement implies that life is fair.

So in your opinion, Obama and the evildoers in the liberal media deserve every penny they earn.

Or do you lack even the pretense of ethics?  Why should someone who contributes minimally to society be paid hundreds of times more than those who do?  Why do professional baseball players get paid more than marines?
