So I was going to eat lunch with my family today (10-11-2015), we had decided to go to the Olive Garden in Independence off 40hwy and Noland Rd for my birthday lunch. They were running late getting there so I decided to go inside and wait for them. I walked in and sat down on a bench just inside the doors. As I was sitting there waiting, one of the employees told me " Sir, we don't allow guns in here." Now mind you I am in full police uniform and on duty. I actually thought it was a joke at first so I asked her " Are you serious?" She replied back with " Yes". So I told her " well I can leave I guess." She then replied back " yes please leave"

Now I never in my wildest thoughts would of thought this would happen in the Kansas City area. I see it happening all over the United States to other officers but never thought it would of happened to me. Please share this post and let everyone know how this establishment is treating their local law enforcement.

Later in the day, Kansas City Fraternal Order of Police president Brad Lemon tweeted, "@OliveGarden Today a uniformed officer was told that he had to leave your Independence Mo store because he had a gun. You should be ashamed."

About an hour after Lemon's tweet a national spokesman with Olive Garden reached out and apologized for the incident. After talking to the spokesman, Lemon posted the following to the Kansas City FOP's Facebook page:

This afternoon a spokesperson for the national chain called and offered a very heartfelt apology. I do not believe this issue occurred because of a company policy. This occurred because of a poor decision of one employee. He promised a full investigation and an appropriate response by their ownership. Our brother received a similar call tonight, and was offered a very sincere apology.

What I hope comes out of this event, and the others like this around our country, is that the narrative needs to change. It's not okay to treat law enforcement poorly. We deserve, and have earned, the same level of respect due to each and every member of society. However, if a person or company, chooses to do otherwise we will not stay silent any longer.

These Corporations really need to inform their managers/employees that this behavior is not only unacceptable, but could cause the company irreparable financial damage if they were boycotted.  Restaurants especially operate on a very fine profit margin.

One of my first jobs was as a waitress.  We encouraged the uniformed police to eat their dinner/lunch at our place by offering them a free meal while on duty.  They only had to pay for the sales tax.

They always apologize when they are caught. Upper management should be pro-active,in light of these events, and instruct their employees NOT to refuse service to any LEO's or military, unless the employee wants to be fired on the spot.  :cursing:

Yes!!  I love Outback's bread!  It is terrific.  Macaroni Grill also has terrific rosemary bread!  I would rather have either one of these breads than Olive Garden breadsticks.

You will like it.  They used to be better before they were bullied into reducing the calorie count in their entrees.  They did a beautiful salmon in cream sauce over angel hair pasta.  The sauce was loaded with calories but delicious!!  Now I usually get their chicken scallopini which has a similar sauce... but not quite as good without the calories.

I am blessed to have all of these restaurants and many more within walking distance of my home.  We eat out a lot!

IMNO Olive Garden is not in the same league with Macaroni Grill.

Yes, it used to be my favorite eatery.  But when Michelle started her health push on people, it hurt Macaroni Grill.  They were listed up there with Cheesecake Factory for calorie count in their meals and it was all over the internet.  But unlike the Cheesecake Factory, they buckled under the pressure and redid their menu.  They immediately lost almost half of their clientele.  Now they are scrambling to come up with a menu to attract the value minded lunch crowd.  I am afraid they may end up going out of business.  It was a bad move on their part to change their menu.  It doesn't hurt to have a big calorie meal once in a while!

We have a really good "health" restaurant near us.  They don't use any butter, but their food is exquisite.  It is called "Seasons 52" because they change their menu every week.  52 menus a year and they don't repeat them.  They are pricey but nice for special occasions.  I also like "Capitol Grill" restaurants.

I like the "Old Spaghetti Factory", but there aren't too many of them.  A lot of people like Bucca di Beppo, but it's not my favorite.

Many years ago there was an "Old Spaghetti Factory" in my neighborhood, but it did not last long at all.  I don't know what happened but it was gone very soon after it opened.  I never actually went there so I don't know their food.

And I have never heard of "Bucca di Beppo" which surprises me.  Having traveled all over the Country I usually am somewhat familiar with chain restaurants.

Ah-so, I just googled Bucca di Beppo and found one in the mall two blocks from my house! I don't know why I have never seen it.

It's very casual. You get a lot of food for the money.  But there are small mom and pop places I like better than them.

The Old Spaghetti Factory had a breaded chicken breast served with a creamy lemon/garlic sauce.  They also serve family style.  I copied their soup recipe that they serve in a large soup tureen.

It's made with chicken, chicken broth, garlic, zucchini, cauliflower, onion, celery, basil, garbanzo beans, (chick peas) and little bits of spaghetti.  Yum
