I am half way through the video. No offense to the OP as this is interesting. It is also clear as mud. It reminds me that China is not western. Before Xi, the president was limited to 2 terms. Palace intrigue.

I read another recent book, Red Roulette. Written by a Chinese guy who got an MBA at UW-Madison. He was a business guy, very smart. He was in charge of building the cargo terminal at the Peking airport and got rich.
He married a woman who was very well politically connected. She went by "Whitney" and got rich. Whitney was tight with an "aunty", an older woman married to an older very powerful man. Whitney asked the aunty for OK to marry the author.

Here is how they got ahead. 3 dinners a night. The first dinner was with supplicants who wanted things from you. The second dinner was the biggest dinner and was where you were the supplicant to ask something from higher ups. The third dinner was with equals and was low pressure, with people on your level, more drinking. This might go on 7 nights a week. Is this clear now? Do you understand China? I DO NOT.

Maybe Whitney got too powerful. One day she went to work and never came home. She was 'disappeared.' Her husband, the author, was in London with their son. When his book was to be released he received a call from her, asking him not to publish the book. He did anyway. He never heard from her again.

Personally I don't see how China can continue the race for AI, and that explains Trump's accelerating the push for it. Much like Reagans arms race broke the Soviet Union.

Damn, You Nailed It!
It literally fit the same pattern, except a bit more obvious. In a Capitalist society, demand drives development, but here, the Government Is driving demand.
Either Trump was playing socialist, or he'd pulled a page out of Reagan's playbook.

Yeah, the part about Xi was the important part; the rest is for the economist in mind.
When you hear the term "Auntie" in China, it is not one of endearment, but rather a matriarch with a shotgun holding the youngest family member hostage, a rabid Karen with nothing left to lose, she is Xi and wielding her power.
In China's past, family was everything, but the CCP destroyed everything and bastardized the elegance of honoring your elders.

The Auntie naturally took this position because, in many cases, she was the last member of the family trying to keep it together; in doing so, she had to be strict, used every available tool, be it guilt or blackmail, she wielded it with evil cruelty.

If you look up Chinese Aunties out of control, they all share the same mindset. Fuck Culture, it's dog eat dog and I'm getting my fair share. Buffets are quite entertaining.
The cruise ship ones are rather entertaining and mean.

I think China is doing well in the race for AI. After sanctions some leading Chinese researchers moved from US to China. China worked around some sanctions against exporting nVidia AI chips to China.

This guy says AI depends on cheap electricity which China has.

Sam Altman says "eventually, the cost of AI will converge to the cost of energy."

Robots can build chips, optimize networks, "but an electron is an electron."

In the end, intelligence will scale as far as the grid allows.

Interesting. Not too long. 7 months old. Rings true.

To convert businesses to AI will be quite expensive. China is already struggling.

China relies on coal; that's why Trump is pushing for nuclear plants, as well as small plants to support the grid in smaller areas in the event of an EMP.
China is on the verge of collapse; they can't afford to go toe to toe with us in development.

Exactly, and the people are rebelling against the CCP. Internal strife makes it nearly impossible to move forward, as America sees a glowing future, China faces a changing demographic, of not having kids.

I am reality based. It does not matter what I would like.
China is a very fast adopter of AI and tech. Almost all payments are from smart phones.
I recall a video blogger in China many years ago. 10-15 years ago? he jay walked or walked when it said don't Walk. SerpentZA of ADVChina.
AI caught his face, did ID, fined him, and it was taken from his bank account.

In cities cameras do facial recognition and can track a person as they walk through a city.
It can also track a persn using gait analysis.
In some cities when you call a cab it has no human driver.

Running AI on your smart phone is not the same as converting businesses to AI. Once the first investments are made, labor costs will decrease, however, China will have a hard time making the first investments. And riht now it looks more and more like they will not be able to afford them as they are collapsing.

This is why Trump used the tariffs to bring manufacturing back to the U.S. This is why he secured BILLIONS to be invested HERE. This is going to help pay for the conversion as the new plants are built. We are not going to pay higher prices for goods to another country when we can use AI here to our advantage. The need for cheap labor will decrease, and that is where China has a advantage, for now.

I've read where Japan sells more Depends that infant diapers. China will be there soon.

I recall China has lots of robots to compete with foreign labor costs. There is lots of cheap labor in the center of and west of China.

Steve Jobs told Obama that Apple built its new glass plants in China thanks to US govt regulations and delays, not labor costs.

The countries with the highest absolute numbers of industrial robots (total installations) are:
China: ~1.7 million robots (2023). Largest manufacturing hub, with massive adoption in electronics, automotive, and government-driven automation.

Japan: ~393,000 robots (2022). Major robot producer, with heavy use in automotive and electronics industries.

United States: ~293,000 robots (2022). Significant automation in automotive, logistics, and general manufacturing.

South Korea: ~280,000 robots (2022). High robot density, with extensive use in electronics (e.g., Samsung) and automotive (e.g., Hyundai).

Germany: ~240,000 robots (2022). Europe's leader, with strong presence in automotive and industrial machinery.

The countries with the highest number of industrial robots, based on robot density (robots per 10,000 manufacturing employees), are:
South Korea: 1,012 robots per 10,000 employees (2022). Leading due to heavy automation in electronics and automotive industries (e.g., Samsung, Hyundai).

Singapore: 730 robots per 10,000 employees (2022). Dominated by the electronics sector, with 90% of robots in this industry.

China: 470 robots per 10,000 employees (2023). The largest absolute number of robots (1.7 million), driven by massive manufacturing and government support.

Germany: 429 robots per 10,000 employees (2023). Europe's automation leader, with strong adoption in automotive and machinery sectors.

Japan: 419 robots per 10,000 employees (2023). A major robot manufacturer, with high density in automotive and electronics industries.

I have no informed opinion on the demographic changes in different countries. I wondered why China did not allow Covid to cull the older people to save money. Why shut down the economy full of younger workers?

IMO Japan may be right in not importing lots of foreigners. They will shrink in pop but their culture will not be destroyed. Countries that do not control their borders will become the turd world.

I know that Russian federation has people from more central asian areas taking jobs in big cities. I also know that Russia controls its borders. You need a passport for internal travel. IMO countries that let in the turd world to make up for pop decline may be screwing themselves.
