The Statue of Liberty was originally meant to be a symbol that celebrated the abolition of slavery, but its close proximity to Ellis Island and Lazarus' poem saw it morph into a symbol of America's immigrant tradition.

The US has always welcomed immigrants and asylum seekers. Again, most people see this as being "American"... Except Trump apparently.

There's a big difference between legal immigration and people streaming across the border illegally and then playing our broken asylum system. 22 million illegal aliens are proof.

As I said previously, whether you agree or not, like it or not, the process is legal and the federal government isn't breaking any laws by utilizing the process.

The U.S. immigration laws do not set a limit on the number of people who can be awarded asylum in the United States each year. The number of asylum grants varies, depending on how many people apply (either of their own volition or as a defense to deportation), and how many of them are successful with their asylum claim.

Don't be confused by the fact that there is a limit on the number of people who can be awarded refugee status each year. The U.S. president establishes this limit on an annual basis. Although the grounds for receiving asylum status and refugee status are the same (as set forth in the refugee definition found in § 101(a)(42) of the Immigration and Nationality Act or I.N.A., or 8 U.S.C. § 1101(a)(42)), the procedural requirements are different, and these two categories are treated differently.

See below for further discussion of the distinction between asylum status and refugee status.

The number of asylees tends to run about 25,000 per year. To get the latest figures on how many people have been awarded asylum as well as refugee status in given years, go to the Department of Homeland Security's website, which includes a page on Immigration Statistics. Look for the latest "Refugees and Asylees" report.

This is not about asylum, had it been, people from Cuba would have not been banned by biden. Had this been about asylum, those arrested would be in jail until their hearing. This is about flooding the country with illegals. And no, biden is doing nothing about stemming the tide. Like stated before there is a legally way to immigrate to this country, all else is illegal. This is about illegal immigration.

Again, there is no limit. An average is not a limit.

Quote from: p1tchblack on August 02, 2021, 10:43:06 AMPart of the asylum process is crossing the border illegally and being arrested.  That's why the much hyped "child cages" were used.  In order to request asylum, the person HAS to cross the border illegally, be detained and processed.  A CBT agent can't arrest someone if they don't illegally cross the border to initiate the process.  CBT can't, for example, go into Mexico and detain someone.

p1tchblack, you have gone over the top with your BS.

You do not have to brake the law to become a citizens.

You run the site, so you can do whatever you'd like, including putting words in my mouth that I didn't say, because I never said you HAD to break the law to become a citizen. The thread is about asylum seekers who are flooding the border, not just anyone who wants to become a citizen.

What I DID say was that asylum seekers have to illegally cross the border in order to initiate the asylum process, because CBP agents can not cross into Mexico to detain them.

Under immigration law, the United States allows people who come to this country to file an asylum claim if they "have suffered persecution or fear they will suffer persecution" due to race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion, according to the United States Citizenship Services website.

Asylum seekers arriving at the border are making a case not just to be let into the country, but to be allowed to stay. Here is how it works:

First step

The process for migrants seeking asylum starts when a person steps foot on U.S. soil, either by presenting him or herself to Customs and Border Protection officers at an official port of entry or by crossing the border elsewhere and surrendering to Border Patrol agents.
