Betting here is that he will win the nomination easily. Then the R establishment will do what they did to Goldwater but here is the difference. Trump, w/o party loyalty, will bolt and run as an Independent; his appeal being so strong; and acutely so among the 40%+ of the electorate who no longer vote; that the R's will be annihilated in 2016; an outcome I consider a very good thing for the survival of the nation. Had you said this right after Bush left office, I'd have agreed whole hearted, but not with Trump running against a proven Conservative, the entire dynamic has shifted.
Not only has the base backed Cruz since the beginning, but his support continues to grow unabated, to the point of overtaking the blowhard in Iowa.
Keep in mind, not only do we remember Perot, but everyone remembers what Trump claims to support today, just a few tears back was against.
Cruz will exploit the Hell out of this.

The thing about Trump is this. He says what people have been wanting RINO to say for decades, so those of whom had been turned off by the process came out in support of a liberal that said what they wanted to hear.
But these people are not loyal, they will follow a winner, and at this moment Trump appears to be that guy, but his negatives are higher than his positives, and not just a "I don't like Trump poll question"
But a "No way in Hell would I vote for the guy" kind of negative.
Once Cruz proves he can win, all of trump's base will run to the winner, leaving his holding his own for a change.

Cruz on the other hand has undecideds in his negatives column, people waiting to see who he becomes, and like Trump's following, will jump onto a real Conservative because they want a winner this time.
It was Trump that energized this forgotten/abandoned vote, but it will be Cruz whom solidifies this group into a landslide win over Hitlery in 2016.

Also expect to see Trump throw his support behind Cruz when the inevitable is obvious to his polsters.
Trump is a true capitalist, and he won't miss the opportunity to make the most of his run for office so as not to miss future possibilities.
