Title: What makes women happy?
Post by: Solar on October 07, 2010, 05:39:48 AM
Nothing!!!

OK, I know what you're thinking, but you'd be wrong.
When I first saw this joke, I thought it was just another sexist joke, but it turns out to be more true than not.

The more choices a woman has, the more miserable she becomes.
Long article, but thought provoking.
Read on, men will find it interesting as well

"Self help, surgery, sex? Money, power, career? The options for women now are endless. But has too much choice killed off contentment? By Geraldine Bedell

We should be the happiest generation of women in history. We can choose whether to have children, and when. We don't need to marry to survive, and if marriage makes us miserable, we can divorce. Interesting and rewarding careers are on offer. We can reasonably expect men to take on a proportion of domestic responsibility. For women of other generations, we would seem to be sitting in front of a smorgasbord of opportunities.

Yet we're not satisfied. It's not so much that we have to make a million choices; more that, having chosen, we are haunted by the possibility that our choices might be wrong. If we stay at home to care for our children, we worry about wasting education and dissipating talent and that no one takes us seriously. If we commit ourselves to careers, we're tormented that our children are suffering because we're not there to help them learn to read and we're late for the nativity play."

I read this.  Sad isn't it that we are being trained to require more and better then what we need or want.  I think everyone who's written a book has decided that their way should and would work for everyone that reads it.
I pretty much think if the words said are being heard and not decided on what they mean by the listener, things would probably be much better off for everyone.  We all tend to speak or write and somehow it gets all muddled up,lol. All for the household good dontcha know, lol

Sadly much of it has to do with marketing and a a woman perceives herself and her surrounds.
Life has always had a certain theme, women were the nurturers and ran the household, while men were the hunters that fed the family.
Now the dynamics are changing, and for better or worse, it's a completely new World for them, one they will have to figure out by themselves.

God knows, men have yet to figure them out. ;)

Sadly, there is much truth in that.

Anyway, that is until they realize, money really doesn't buy happiness, merely pays the bills.

It's all such status and image.  Crazy as it is it makes us all go round, lol. My Grandmother told me years ago not to pay attention to what others above you have because if you chose it and work for it it will come if you think you need it.  She said to see the people below you. Learn from them, they will more then likely show you a lesson or 2, learning it, is your choice.  She said to help the people that need it.  As far as money goes, she says you make some, you save some, you help them that dont have any or are in great need of help.
She said never let any printed paper decide how you should live, look or feel, it's someones elses idea that worked for them. it may not necessarily work for you.

I think to many people give to much into "I gotta have because of what someone else thinks we should all have".  Sucked into the drama of keepin up rather then enjoying whats all ready there... Color me crazy but thats the way I see it.  No where is the rule where I gotta have more, it, or that, more in your face then advertising or just cuz someoine said it's better.

This is one topic that got me in trouble once before (somewhere else).

I believe that the simple is better.  I have reached a point in my life where things don't matter as I was once led to believe that they should.  The woman's lib movement brought more to us than just equality.  I personally believe it actually decreased our quality of life as women.  It made me feel that I had to do it all and that if I didn't want or do it "all" that there was something wrong with me.

I see nothing wrong with having the man of my life be the true head of our household.   In a strong relationship he leads by example and makes me feel protected and loved.  Decisions here are discussed equally but the final decision is his.  If I didn't agree with his beliefs and his morals I could not be here or trust the decisions he makes for our us.

To some this may be old fashioned.  It is something that people who know may past don't quite understand how I have "given up" so much.  Tet when they look at me they always say - You look so happy and relaxed.  I am proud to say I am happy living this simple life with such a wonderful man.  ST

Living the way you are now with Solar do you not find that you are happer then 95 % of the ladies that you know and work with.   The good wife and I have been doing what you have said for 45 years and has worked great for us.  LOL she always had the controling vote on the kids but they did not know that until they were past 21 lol.   All other things we descussed equally.  I would say we both complemented each other always in the end.  What we talked about was always behind closed doors.  What we said to the kids was always as one.  The kids has said over and over it gave them something to build on, knowing where the line was that could not be crossed.

I myself do not feel we give up one thing as we sharing more with each other then most people.  LOL there are times when I don't know Jack S about something and it nice to have someone that can ask you WHY! and make you look around and think.  I like most men have a problem thinking out loud around the house. lol  As at my old work job for 36 years it was my job to fix thing and make thing happen through people.  So when you get home you just shut down.  The good wife understood I need some shut down time when I first got home as I work 10 to 15 hrs. a day some times 7 days a week 7 months out of a year.

Most of my friends cannot comprehend how happy I am.  Even my own daughters didn't think it would work.  Surprised them all.  Solar learned quickly when I need downtime and when he can harass me.

The simpler we keep making it the happier I am... :) :) :) :) :-*

As Daddy always asked, "Are you happy?"  Being happy with where you are in your life and with the person you are with is all that ever mattered.  He was a very wise man!   I think he would be very happy!   :) :)

What makes most American women happy (poor, shallow little things that so many of them are) is the bulge in a man's pants. ....Specifically the bulge in the back pocket of his pants, where he keeps his wallet.

I've also heard it said in general that if women spent 1/10th as much time with their therapists as they spend fucking with their hair, the whole human race would be much happier.

Sounds like you have spent most of your life with a "high maintenance" female.  We are not all like that.  If you could get yourself past "her" looks you might just find a woman who does appreciate the simple things,  who doesn't care if she has to work hard or if she breaks a nail.  We exist if you can get past the eye candy need. :-* :-* :-*

If I have a bad hair day.....that's what pony tail holders are for..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Which means I can be done faster with my hair than most men. :)) :))

Actually no. I make an effort to get involved with women who are very intelligent, have a broad sense of humor, and who like those same qualities in me. (And I have one right now who fills all those criteria.) Looks are secondary, nothing but icing on the cake; what a person is inside is what counts. I've had - and unceremoniously dumped - a couple of high-maintenance women. Mainly my experience with them is vicarious: I've had a lot of friends who tried to make a go with high-maintenance women, and so I got to see first-hand how miserable those women made them.

I learned before I was out of high school that the moment you start barfing on your shoes is the same moment drinking stops being fun. I learned before I was 25 that the moment you figure out a women appreciates you more for what you can buy for her than for what your hearts say to each other, is the same moment you kick her to the curb.

Good for you...too many men can't get past the looks stage and then are totally perplexed by what the women go through to look that way.  "Natural" beauty can be very expensive and time consuming.   :) :)

lololol, toooo funny.   Must be that rolled up wad of singles in the front pocket you're referring to in order to get em noticed.
