What's the big attraction? Seeing contestants have their delusions of fame and fortune go up in smoke?
I just don't understand why people would literally run to the t.v. to watch that show.

Different strokes for different folks.
Its beyond me, but ST used to watch it.
Me? I haven't seen TV in years.
The vast majority of the people I've talked to about watching 'Idol' also say that they're hooked on 'Dancin' Wit Da Stars'. They can tell you everything, and I mean EVERYTHING about the shows, but they can't tell you diddly squat about what's going on politically in the U.S.
The only television I watch anymore is TCM, as I enjoy movies from the 30's up to the early 70's.

I hate the show, not because of the premise, but because of the phony hype: Each judge makes their inane cookie cutter speach, the crowd does the wave on cue, the families cry.... ...what crap.
Remember "Star Search"? It was cool, because it was pure contest without the fluff. Frankly, I don't see how Steve Tyler can stand being on A.I.. He's a real rocker.

Frankly I don't see how that ugly thing can father a daughter like Liv Tyler.

:D :D :D :D :D
I agree, watching it with the sound off is even better, but for the best effect of all, turn it off, then its a great show,

My wife loves the show, and I've seen enough to realize the talent was absolutely outstanding this year.
It's a feel good show- pure entertainment. Those that like it will watch it. Those that don't, won't. Big deal.
If everyone liked the same things, it would be a damned boring old world.

I had a girlfriend a few years back that could tell you everything about these people, she is a Hollywood addict.
She actually said this once, as if she had some special ability.
"I can tell what is going to happen next by the expression on the actors face".
I looked at her, and she was serious, I said thats what the director is shooting for.
She was crushed.
Stupid lib. :))
I think it has absolutely nothing to do with anything, which is why people like it. I like about the first 3 shows,,,then it gets boring. I do miss the variety shows when I was growing up. To bad they wont do those kinds.

I loved the Carol Burnett Show.
As to watching these show Solar was partially correct. After the first season I was never much of a fan of American Idol. I would tune in briefly so I could be part of the discussion at work the next day and eventually stopped following it altogether. I did enjoy Dancing with the Stars but that too over time lost its appeal. Now I just watch a few highlights now and then on the internet.
As to the draw...I think people like to watch people fail and to see the underdog come out on top. :)
She was one of my favs to... I liked Sonny n Cher to.... Laugh In,,Ed Sullivan,, but they just dont do that any more... Its nuts to me,,, but times have changed...

I'm with ya, Elfie. Remember Hollywood Palace? Ed Sullivan? Remember all those cool shows hosted by folks like Dean Martin and Sammy Davis and the rest of the Rat Pack? Remember Vicki Carr?
Ah, geez. Those were some good days. :P :P :P
I love DWTS ,can actuiall watch it with SO ! (Get very pissed off when a favorite is voted off , but like the last few seasons a lot ... Derik needs to be on next season and was really pissed off when Bill Clinton backed out of being a contestant , And at end of this season Kirste made it to "I'd hyt iyt " status ... ;D
