From the sheriff.
Some moron started a fire a few miles from us, it's very close, yet depending, it could be considered far.
Live shot, about 15 to 20 acres at the moment, but winds are light.
https://www.alertwildfire.org/region/tahoe/?camera=Axis-BaldCA
Just checked, it closer to 100 acres and spreading fast.
Unfortunately the area is bone dry brush at about 3600' elevation, heading for draws and peaks.
At the moment, I am not concerned because we have about 5 fire stations responding, no air support or I'd have heard it, they'll fly at sun up.
There's not many creeks in the area because of the Slate Mtn just above the fire, so the terrain is rather sparse and dry vegetation, so trucks and crew will have to rely on trucked in water.
Luckily for helicopters there are several vast lakes and rivers in the area.
My only concern is if wind kicks up and forecasts have that two days out, so they have two days to get this out.
If not? It could become a true monster heading for lake Tahoe, me and Placerville.
OK, I think I'll head back to bed.
Make it through the night??????
Bears, your taking the bears, right.

I just got up and they just now hit it with air attack, so it should be contained.
It will be 3 days of smoke and we should be good, assuming some other dumb ass doesn't come up from the valley to play stupid games.

Good point, they'll probably be showing up once word spreads. Cool water and the berries are in and sweet.

How's Toy handling it? Last two years we had fires popping up around us and Debra could not sleep, which means I could not sleep.
can you see the planes? I liked watching the skill they had bombing the fires with water and chemicals.

LOL! we went to bed at 4:00 this morning, I put on anime to fall asleep, she tossed and turned and got back up, has been glued to the fire since.
It's at 185 acres and we have the resources to cover it now that the Park fire slowed down a bit.
I could probably see the air support if I ventured to the top of our mountain a few hundred feet away, but it's already 96 outside and I can't stand the heat.
Here's a live shot form Alert wildfire cam, it's closer to me, this camera is behind me by 3 miles, the fire is about two miles in front of me.
It appears from this shot, they have a pretty good handle on its advance.
Yes, it was arson, and word is, they have one in custody.

Absolutely beautiful country. I mean WOW!.
They caught the guy, his name is Daniel Horney, he's 50, looks 70, assuming drugs and alcohol.
I'm guessing it was a revenge fire based on the fact he was arrested this morning at 5:00 am, meaning the victim called the sheriff and turned him in.
Faceplant has his page up, but all it has is his imagen no actual friends.

Yes it is, it is literally Gods country, a creek in every canyon, springs every hundred yards, major rivers divide the Georgetown Divide, hence the name.
Literally, directly across from the fire 2 miles away was the Camino mill Clinton closed, which is just one of the reasons we have such an abundance of heavy fuels, no one wants to log because there is zero profit to clear your land. Even the forest service can't afford logging because it costs more for staff to monitor the operation than it brings in.
This was all part of the plan all along and Nucelinni is taking advantage of it to destroy our economy.
No insurance company wants to take the risk, so they bailed.
This was my patrol area in the 90s, back when you always saw crews clearing the forest, or logging trucks all season long, and we never had fires outside of lightning strikes.

If you look at that image, the 2nd image split at the bottom looking through those two yellow pine, you can see a ridge in the distance, my property sits and the left end slope of the grade.
It really is that close.
If you also look at the map top right, you can look at the entire area including lake Tahoe near by. Those small arrows are all cameras, to the further North, you'll see the Park fire, also an arson fire.

Beginning to understand all the wildlife. Do you see any difference in them when there is smoke in the air?

Absolutely! Like bees, they become docile. For example, when they run from a fire, it's not unusual to see Fox, Bear, Lions Etc. all huddled around a stream, no hunting, no violence, they all share the same major threat.
It's why animals seek out humans when injured, they know the threat to their life is greater than that of the chance a man will help them. It's a conscious decision.
Sheriff just came through with lights and sirens, claiming it's now a "Mandatory" evacuation. :bigl :bigl :bigl :bigl :bigl :bigl :bigl :bigl
I told him no fuckin way! I'm staying! He didn't like being challenged, he is younger than the time I've lived here.
I've fought fires, and I can tell you Right now, they've mismanaged this fire badly! FUBAR!

Did they ever get it out?
Quote from: Possum on August 08, 2024, 06:13:12 PMDid they ever get it out?
Oh God no, it is up to 1500 acres.
This is really starting to piss me off. It's "never cry wolf", and that's what they just did by posting a mandatory evac order.
They'll do it again on the next one and the next, to where people start ignoring them and then Wham, we get hit with a real one and no one leaves.
I'm going to do some digging on this. I think it's political! Fuckin Commies!
Here's a map of the fire, I'm over to the West about 4 miles?

At least two or three more weeks of fire, assuming the weather holds.

Of course. Do you think this could be another one of those DEW attacks like Maui?

Nah, they caught the idiot who started it. I think it was a vengeance thing against an acquaintance.
The guy turned him in immediately. However, I do not discount an MK Ultra style connection.
He's a druggie/alcoholic with no friends. The perfect victim of the govt.
His social media had one pic of a 50 year old guy, who looked like he was in his late 70s, and no friends.
He started the fire and 5 hours later, the sheriff caught him.
If you can, give us a update. Hoping for the best.

Glad you asked...
It's as I expected. They finally got all the equipment necessary to contain the fire.
I now understand why the drastic call for an evacuation, those on the scene knew they couldn't stop the fire with what they had and they were panicking.
Finally the state asked for Federal assistance, (That was the political Connection) I had mentioned earlier.
Nucelinni didn't want to use the resources unless he could tap into the Fed Taxpayer Teat, the Fed relinquished and he got his money.
This is how it always turns out. Trump gave the commie Federal money to clean up the forest, Nucelinni put it in the General Fund, money gone, forests still littered with dead trees over the last 3 decades, including drought dried and dead trees.
As long as he's in office, we'll continue to have fires, it's his Golden Goose Teat to Taxpayers money!
Good timing. The fire is now corralled. But no sooner than they got this under control, another pops up near Truckee about 18 miles to the North.

that's close enough to see the smoke.

Looked bad, either a campfire, or arson. With so many resources on the fire line around NorCal, it won't take long to knock it down, unless Nucelinni decides he can profit off this one as well. :sneaky:
