I think this was one of the best ad campaigns of it's time, it was as common as Here come da judge, or you bet your bippy.

It originated with pilots in WWII, but I think it was Jim Beam that used it as a marketing campaign in the 60s.
There were four questions that went with the initiation.
When I was initiated, the final task was to kneel on the ground and raise your arms and act like you were praying to the gods, all the while repeating very slowly at first and speeding up till you heard the Gods speak to you.
You had to say Oh...wha...ta...nas....Siam.
After repeating it for a few minutes rather fast, you hear the God speak.
