Title: The coyotes are singing tonight

They would be cool if they weren't such a menace to small livestock.  I enjoy listening to them as much as the owles.

I used to like listening to them gather, kind of like a family greeting, that is, until I heard my friends dog get torn apart for a full three minutes by a pack of them.
It was the most horrible sound you can imagine, it brought tears to my eyes.

I know, they are a menace, and a guy down the road from me actually has a pack of dogs he has trained to hunt them, so we don't really have that many around anymore.  They gathered by the river (or it sounded that way), then headed further north.  I only got to hear them for about ten minutes.  I certainly don't want them any closer than that though.

I guess it's like the wolf, I love the bay of the wolf, but like all predators, best to just hear them.

Soon it will be quiet enough here at the cabin to hear the many voices across the river.   Sometimes we can here as many as 20. It gets real interesting when we hear 2 packs.   There's an active den bout 2 blocks from my house.  It's in the tree line at the graveyard. I know this cuz i flushed the mom while mushroom hunting.   Backed out eyes wide open.  Beautiful animals they are..but armed with a pocket knife n a walking stick...yea, not so much..
