Title: Technically Snowed In
Post by: Solar on February 17, 2011, 06:16:23 PM
We are getting hammered by a serious Winter storm that drove down out of Alaska.
We could get out, but ST can't get to and from work, so were kind of snowed in. :o 8)

Walks, are you getting this as well?

It has been pretty decent here in Atlanta, in the 50s and 60s...

No but over in Oregon from Pendleton S by SW the Blue Mountains are getting hammered big time.  We are only cold at night 23º in the 40's day time.    I like snowed in.   ;D  ;D    It has been calling for some snow off and on for 2 days but not yet.  It is call for snow in the AM 30% Friday.  But most of the time we need 60% to 90% before we see snow.

Thats the weather we just had for the last two weeks, not normal in the least, instead of the upper 60s, we should have been in the 30s, it's February for cryin out loud, it should be cold.
But I just let the dog out to a normal foot+ of snow on the ground.

ST will spend another day complaining shes bored, and I will spend another day with the response of "then, go clean your room", worked for my mom, I shut up. ::) :))

Looking at the satellite photo, looks like you should get a bit colder. :)

Let me explain "snowed in" at the Solar household...

It means ST can't get her Subaru up the hill and the 5 miles I need to go for the main road.  It also means Solar does not like to worry about me driving in the stuff.  It is stressful for both of us.

So once or twice a Winter I just stay home from work.

Unfortunately this time I have a hurt shoulder/arm and can do nothing....so yes I am bored.  Instead of cleaning my room I baked bread and cornbread.  ;D ;D ;D

It would take a good 5' of snow to keep us home, its just ST hasn't grasped the concept of mountain roads (meaning steep grades) and snow, she is more accustomed to Midwest snow and hills.
Its tough driving these roads when it snows, thats why I just stay home, let the idiots wreck their cars. :D

We are 700ft above the main road.  It is all down hill and graval.  The road is about 1 miles long and one side is all drop off.   :o   Snow is ok lol but after the first day of snow then you start getting ice under the snow.   Ice not good even with 4 wheel drive.

Re: Baking~  At least you are getting something done, ST. I would be bundled up in my snuggie and sipping on something very warm while wishing for Spring.  (Snow means hibernation time, imo.... and I just described my idea of hibernation.)

I don't sit still very well.  Doesn't matter what season it is.  Fortunately my sisters got me hooked on "Mystery Games".  I can lose track of time while playing... :) :) :)

Oh I hate the ice, our road goes over the mountain top,and about 1000' of it is North facing up hill, so it gets not one bit of Sun, I suspect it will be freezing in a day or two and I'll have to use the rippers on the tractor to break it up.

We are going on our third winter where we live now.  The most we have been snowed in is 3 weeks.  We can go out the back way if we needed, 10 miles longer through 2 other farms.  But we are good for over 3 months on food.

It is 32º out now lol but in the sun it feels like 70º.  I love this time a year setting out on the deck looking into Oregon.  I see two motor homes down at the park and 6 boats out fishing today.  I think Spring is coming.  LOL The neighbors dog and I walks about 5 miles along the ridge above the river.  Life is good when you don't work at living.   ;D

Were having the same weather, excepting the wind, I'd be outside sitting, but frostbite and I don't get along.
Yes, Spring is just mere weeks away. 8)

Our wind is running around 5 to 10 mph ave.  Most of the time from the North right now.  When it's 15 to 20 mph I am like you.
