Post by: Solars Toy on December 26, 2021, 03:31:22 PM
I don't care how many times I listen/watch this I can't help but tear up... enjoy.

Been watching videos of people's reactions the first time they hear this...tears from most by the end.

Good stuff. This one has some age on it, being one of their earlier YouTube releases.

Mrs. Tbone and I got to see Pentatonix perform live in Cincinnati a couple years ago. What a show!!!!

The first of their videos that got my attention was another Christmas song, "Little Drummer Boy." Until I saw this video, I had hated that song my entire life.

Enjoy.

It surprises me how many folks are fooled into thinking the song is either ancient or recent. (It was written in 1984.) And it baffles me that so many think it's about God or religion. There are references in the lyrics to some Old Testament stories (mainly Samson/Delilah and David/Bathsheba, natural subjects for the writer, an Orthodox Jew), but the song is mainly about unsuccessful interpersonal relationships and sex.

But it also surprises me how many people think "Jingle Bells" and "Frosty the Snowman" and "Winter Wonderland" and "Let It Snow" and "Baby It's Cold Outside" and the Ronettes' "Sleigh Ride" are Christmas songs. They could all just as easily be Groundhog Day songs.

Of course, now you can hate me, just as Mrs. Tbone hates me when I say stuff like that....

No hate just appreciation for the additional information.  Sometimes when Solar is playing music I'll listen to the song and ask him if he realizes what they are actually saying.  Most times he doesn't he just likes the tune.

And the tune is GREAT!!!

The song is popular, and has made its author a boatload of money. Nothing at all wrong with that!

I just can't help being tickled by the stuff folks buy into. The tune is actually wonderful, and the lyrics can be sung in a way that stirs emotions.

Maybe I'm more focused than necessary of the fact that our feet of clay are made of.... clay.

Just finished reading Deuteronomy (last of the Torah) and even with God with them (literally in a cloud/pillar of fire) they still messed it up on a regular basis.

Reading the Old Testament tends to make me sad unless I'm enjoying the old prophets.

Yeah, the Jews messed things up right and proper. They had been given special status, special guidance, special leaders, and a fair assortment of miracles, and still they fell short again and again.

I always go back to the way God made us. He gave us free will, and He didn't have to do that. He could have made us automatons, little robots that follow His commands every minute of every day. But as free beings, we had -- and still have -- the choice to follow Him or not.

God wants the company of free beings who affirmatively choose Him over the devil. He values that loyalty, that fealty, that dedication over everything else. God wants people who are fans of God.
