Toy, the picture you posted is gone, but your story rings memory bells for me.
When I was a teenager in Miamisburg, Ohio in the very early 1970s, I took a summer job working in a roof truss "barn." It was literally a huge barn that had been converted to the business of making roof trusses. I took the job, of course, because it paid so well -- $2.50 an hour -- and because I'd always loved construction. (I've worked in one phase of construction or another all my life.)
I remember coming home every day with bleeding fingertips, the aftermath of sorting the joint plates, which are press-punched steel and quite sharp. I remember the juicy paychecks. But mostly, I remember the nail-gun fights.
Air-powered nail-guns were part and parcel of the work. Then as now, a nail-gun had two triggers -- one operated by your finger, and the other (safety) trigger on the "nose" of the gun, just next to when the nail is driven. The "nose" trigger is designed to allow the gun to function only when there is user-applied pressure on the gun for driving nails.
Inventive teenagers -- I was one of those -- quickly discovered that the "nose" trigger on a nail-gun could be easily tied back with a bit of baling wire. Once that's done, a nail-gun is literally a semi-automatic pistol that fires (in our case) 8-penny nails at a high velocity with the simple pull of a finger trigger. Ooooh yeah!
Many is the hour I spent huddled behind a stack of two-by's, ducking and sliding and shooting number eights at the other team. It is a wonder I have two eyes today. :tounge: :tounge: :tounge:

Loved the story Tbone. It is amazing what we did as kids and teens....and survived in one piece. :huh: :huh:
I did the same thing when I was framing in the 70&80s and even at 100' or more, those things really whak the shit out of ya.
We always did in in the winter when we all had on heavy coats and goggles, but if one caught you just right, you had a hole to patch, which usually signified a winner and we'd quit till the next day.
The foreman had the better gun, of course. :scared: :laugh:
