well it ain't much but I thought I would give it a try. Basically it's about my wife and me and our journey to get off the grid. I usually will update it every time we go up and work and build. I'm at the point now where I have one more add on to the cabin, some out buildings and huge root cellar. This is so much fun I could just spit. This is a new chapter in our lives that will carry us until we are planted there. Everytime we go up there I get the tinglies and don't want to go back home :P So here is how you get to it>>>

Great stuff Bob.  Love the pictures.

Someday I'll share the story of my parents move to Arkansas onto their 100+ acres.  They were both in their late fifties.  My Dad was a brick mason by trade.  Beautiful home..

Also like the idea of a root cellar.....that sounds like a project we could take on...  Along with the Greenhouse I want...
I pray, not wish because I have a God not a Genie.

The Root Cellar could be put under the Greanhouse with the reading room on the top floor.   ;D

I had part of a side hill dug out for a 16x10 cellar. A third will be for stored fruits and vegies then there will be a wall and door. That will be a high humitity room, then the last two thirds will be for canned goods. I have vents for both rooms. I may extend it a little to house a freeze room for hanging my venison or other frozen needs. Of course this will be bear proof. I would post pics but then I would have to join one of those picture storage places, with my blog I can download from Picaso

Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't the same warm air that greenhouses love seems to rise better if it goes UP? Put the greenhouse topside (with better windows taking up more of the roof) and let the heat from the reading room rise (using smaller windows to retain heat).

I love all the input on this...now to just convince Solar this is what I really need... :)

I sleep with the window open most of the Winter, cause I'm like a furnace, she has an extra blanket.

I could see her in a loft in a green house, wearing a robe and wrapped in a blanket, all the while reading he Kindle with a smile on her face. :))
