Here in the heartland -- Ohio -- we enjoyed the wettest April on record. Last year in April, I had stuff in the ground. Not so this year. WAY too wet, WAY too cold. (This global warming shit is killing my garden!)
We're now well on our way to the wettest and coldest May on record. The normal rainfall for the month around these parts is just a touch under 4 inches. At my house, it's already rained nearly 5 1/2 inches, and it's raining steadily right now. Our current temperature -- 47 -- is our high for this day.
I heard on the radio today that at this time last year, Ohio corn farmers were 75% planted. This year, they're 2% planted. I know that I had garden seed in the ground -- lots of it -- by this time last year, but right now I can't even walk across either of my gardens. This may be the worst spring in my memory for planting and such, not because of catastrophic rains, but because it just won't stop raining. A quarter-inch of rain is not a flood, but it's a lot of rain. In April, we averaged nearly a quarter-inch of rain per day. So far in May, we're on track to average MUCH higher rainfall than that.
For mowing, it's for sure the worst year ever. Most of my mowable grass -- about 2 acres -- has been hit once, just once. I nailed it three days ago, when we had a short respite from the rains. The muddy tracks speak for themselves...
It may be another week or two before I can mow for the second time. Hmmm.
We are have more rain in our area also, but it is ok for the dry framers. I am cutting my grass 2 times a week now and watering every other day right now. I should be watering everyday this time a year, but with the rain I am good. The first crops are all in for our area that I live in, in Washington state. The dry farmers are loving it. All back East is just getting kill with rain.
It's been cold and rainy everywhere - not just in WA (I'm currently at my US home, in Edmonds - near Walkstall in Seattle!) - but in Shanghai as well. One of the snowiest winters on record, and it STILL has not broken from the mid 80s. Usually by this time of year the AC in my place is on every day, and we're pushing mid 90s 2-3 times a week. A lot colder than that right now!

I have 2 kids living in the Seattle area. They come East of the mountains for the sun at our place when they can. I lived in Tumwater for over 40+ years. This is a wet one for sure even for WA.
