Title: I like Acorn Squash
Post by: walkstall on December 08, 2013, 02:06:01 PM
I like to half an acorn squash and bake it or microwave it.  Then fill it with hot chili, mix it up .    Add cheddar cheese if you like and top it off with sour cream if you like.

You had me at "bake it."  Acorn squash baked with brown sugar and butter is like a treat in a shell.

You can do the same thing in a microwave in less time.

I was with you up until the hot chili?  I like a good butter sauce on it.  But cheese sounds good.

If you don't like chili then chili is not for you.

You can microwave upside down on a plate. When they feel soft to the touch their done.  Take out and add butter and brown sugar if you like.   You can do the same thing with butternut squash without the brown sugar.    I only add a dab of butter when there done.   Just remember there very hot coming out of a microwave.

I'm by no means a 'FOODIE' but I would think chili would overwhelm acorn squash.

PS What kinda cheese would you put on it??

Incidentally, I LOVE CHILI.  (Only thing I can cook well).  But no doubt it wouldn't meet the standards of TEXANS.

So I bought one when I went to the store yesterday and baked it last night.  We had them with butter, salt, and pepper.  Not bad...  Toy

The butternut (winter) squash has more flavor I think.
