The folks in SW LA and SE TX need our prayers. Laura is projected as a Cat 3 at least. My entire insurance career was spent in the southeast and my experience tells me this one can be bad. I can't believe some fools think they can ride it out. You can't stop or survive a 10' storm surge.

Yet idiot libs build on earthquake faults and expect the Taxpayer to bail them out.
I live in an area that has a propensity for wild-land fire, I cannot get insurance, so it is incumbent upon me to take precautions, but the Marxists don't let you cut trees without paying for an expensive environmental study costing in the tens of thousands.

So doing it on your own can cost you jail time and a fine, all thanks to google earth, the snitch. I'm still shocked I've gotten away with what little I've done. Anyway, it's hard to see from satellite. I've done it incrementally over the decades, so it's not as if there's a scar on the land.

Point being, the Fed needs to stop bailing these areas out after a flood/quake which is inevitable as opposed to fire sweeping through.
I find it odd, Ca mandated everyone purchase flood insurance, but allowed insurance companies to skate on fire insurance. Thanks DNC for screwing over Conservatives.

Yes,libs live on fault-zones and coast lines, while Conservatives live inland rural.

The federal Flood Insurance Program is another whole new can of worms of its own.

Don't get me started.
I was raised with the idea you take risks in your life and are responsible for yourself, but govt goes against our Founding principles when they institute laws protecting Darwin Award nominees from their own stupidity.

And provide coverage over and over to rebuild in the same place. There is a reason basic flood insurance is not offered by the private sector.

BINGO!!!
That was the point I failed to make. I watched as that one hurricane in the 80s or 90s wiped out million dollar mansions on the coast and after being bailed out were allowed to rebuild.
Rinse and repeat! The govt has removed the barrier of commonsense.

This is looking really bad. Knowing these states already lie low, a 20' storm surge could potentially move miles inland flooding tens of thousands out of their homes.
Can't even begin to imagine what devastation this will wrought.

The good news this morning is that the storm surge was significantly below original projections.

That explains why I'm not seeing much reported this morning. Media loves death and destruction.

I have been watching The Weather Channel all morning and no mention casualties. Of course, officials have really not had the opportunity to do a complete assessment.

Any loss of life is tragic. However, the total fatalities is now 6. Folks that is about the best we could expect with a Cat 4. The folks in LA should be congratulated for a job well done.

Hard to believe so many actually heeded the warnings ahead of time.

Most folks in south LA understand the power of hurricanes. Also, the area has not been invaded by folks who think they can ride storms out.
