Just got a call from the lookout tower, we have a fire, about a mile away. :cursing:
Strangely enough, just a half hour ago we had gusting winds around 20mph towards me from the fire, and suddenly they just up and quit. Thank You God.

We have had them all around us for the last month.  One with in 26 miles of us.   The farmers have done a great job for our area.  A fire breaks out and the farmers are on it in no time.   They told us to evacuate once, we told them we would stay with the farmers and do what we could do to help them.   You put 15 to 20 road graders side by side and you can take the fires food away very quick.   Around us is most all dry grass fires.  Most all the farmers have one or two  road graders loaded to move out when there call for.

Thanks. They hit it with everything they had, air tankers, helicopters, hot shot crews as well as 3 different fire depts with water pumpers.
They didn't want to risk having this one get away, not in this forest, where it could easily have destroyed an area the size of NY and tens of thousands of homes, some ranging in value the millions.

Better to spend 10 million fighting it, then to cost the economy hundreds of millions rebuilding.

Remember that last one where it was started by some lib who was homeless, and he started a fire because global warming wasn't kicking in that night, so he ended up burning the forest down?

They goit the fire out, threw all they had on it.
But we are between to massive fires, both, thankfully 20 miles away, but they are evacuating towns at both fires.
Luckily we went straight into winter, it's been light rain since yesterday, and more rain predicted tonight.

Yep, we're about 6 weeks ahead of schedule, and October weather is already here.

There calling for two days of rain also for use in the next day or two.  I hope it will also help the fires in Oregon and Washington.  We have had smoke in the air off and on a lot for a month now.  I am looking for a wet fall for our area and more snow for winter this year.  I may get to use my new show blower yet that I got 3 years ago.

We had a good rain last night.  But it's still warm and humid.  I think that's because of all the tropical depressions/hurricanes pushing off of the Mexican coast into the Pacific.

Are you guys getting the same system or is yours moving down from Alaska/Canada?

Yeah, we were getting the same as you until a few days ago, when that Alaskan belt slipped in and our temps plummeted 20 deg.
It's 39 deg out right now, when a couple of days ago it was 72 and muggy from the tropical air you guys were getting.

If you look at the satellite shot, you'll see that real cold air from Alaska over the ocean moving into ca, and back to you guys, so you'll probably get a bit cooler like us.
I just lit the fire for the first time this year. I hate the smell of dust burning.

Oh crap! That reminded me, so I turned around to look, and there was all kinds of stuff Toy piled on the stove over the summer, including a new can of V-8 juice.
That woulkd have made a huge mess.....

I don't see temps below 57º even at night time.  The lowest for the rest of this month they say will be 73º daytime.  It will make it nice for working in the yard getting set for winter down the line.
