Sunday was a tough day across the south. At least 30 dead and much destruction. Being in the mountains tornadoes are rare, but straight line wind can be very strong. We kept power, but were without cable and internet until last evening. Across the street neighbor had a tree on his house and backyard neighbor had a large tree down. Power out for 20,000 in the county.

I watch the weather across the US and cringe every year as the South moves into tornado season. Being stationed at Ft Gordon, I remember how the air would sink and you knew what was about to hit.

Having lived in the south my entire life I agree one can feel the atmosphere in the air. It is amazing how you adjust if you live in a tornado prone area. Now living in the mountains of NC we rarely experience tornadoes.

We get them in Ca, but they're nothing like the South, but still, the damage and wind/hail/lightning that accompanies them can do a lot of damage in a tiny area.
Though the air doesn't get that heavy feeling out here like it does back there, so the only warning you get here, is that weird colored sky.

I am surprised at how many tornado Washington State get a year.  2.5 tornadoes per year, on average, I only hear about one every 10 years of so.   "A lot of them are along the I-5 corridor from Portland up through Bellingham, and east of the Cascades along I-82 and I-90."

Same here, I had only known of one till I moved to the mountains, and we see them almost every year. The conditions have to be just right, but they do form.
What we do see in the Spring as normal, horizontal tornadoes thousands of feet in the air, they look awesome, but they never straighten out and reach for the earth, just raise hell in the sky.

Two nights in a row we are down in the upper 30's. That is what we get in December not mid April. High today 56, wind out of the north had
a chill, we absolutely loved it.

My SIL in Arkansas just told us she was 80 degrees yesterday, and woke to snow this morning at 32 deg.
We're having beautiful weather, 68 and sunny with a light breeze, no bugs and that all changes next week, back to Winter...
