Title: A magical true underground city
Post by: quiller on May 12, 2012, 09:45:58 AM
There are some things on this planet which fully deserve the phrase "fantastic but true."

Here's one of them, in Turkey....

Absolutely INCREDIBLE DISCOVERY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxW26pAIG9M#)

Everything looks so empty and un-lived in.  I guess every scrap of furnishing and evidence of habitation has been removed?  I think the only artifact type item I saw was what looked like a wrought iron grating covering the entrance to a small tunnel.

I have a feeling they've taken it all away, considering only 10% of the tunnels are open to the public.
I'd love to see the living quarters as it was in it's day.
This really is pretty amazing considering how long ago it was, the tech in it's design is pretty impressive.

Ventilation alone simply astounds me. I didn't see any mention of how dwellers managed to defend against blockage of those vents. Perhaps that's why they were later abandoned, once "liquid fire" was invented and could be poured down into the shafts.
