Three people were confirmed dead and at least 150 were missing in northern India after a broken glacier caused a major river surge that swept away bridges and roads on Sunday, police said.
"We have located at least three dead bodies on the river bed. Our last update puts the missing persons number at 150, and there are 16 or 17 persons trapped inside a tunnel," a police spokesperson in Uttarakhand state told AFP.
A witness reported a wall of dust, rock and water as an avalanche roared down a river valley.
"It came very fast, there was no time to alert anyone," Sanjay Singh Rana, who lives on the upper reaches of Raini village, told Reuters by phone. "I felt that even we would be swept away."
Locals fear that people working at a nearby hydro-power project had been swept away, as well as villagers roaming near the river looking for firewood or grazing their cattle, Rana said. "We have no idea how many people are missing."

One incident, in just a small part of the world that should show that man can not control nature. And there are those who think man can control climate.

I feel for those caught in this, but when Nature speaks, people better listen.

RISHIKESH, India (AP) — Indian rescue crews struggled to reach trapped victims Sunday after part of a glacier in the Himalayas broke off and released a torrent of water and debris that slammed into two hydroelectric plants. At least nine people were killed and 140 were missing in a disaster experts said appeared to point to global warming.

Yeah.... while in a state of denial - I've ruined a few pairs of underwear.
Hear it on the radio a couple of days ago...
Volcanic activity in the area of Greenland and the Artic has been quiet a long, long time.
It's resurging again, causing ice to melt, but... it's still being replaced at a substantial rate.
Those pictures of Glaciers moving... yeah, I guess it's melting from underneath!

"But many scientists now realize that the 1999-2007 Gakkel Ridge heat and chemically charged fluid flow event was the root cause of accelerated the Arctic sea ice melting rate."

Liberals just hate it when nature takes an unexpected turn.
