This is a must have if you do anything.
Zote soap is a laundry detergent, but alkaline free, ST bought a bar because she uses it to make laundry detergent, I smelled it, (not too great), but the scent doesn't stay on your body and you will get used to it.
But what I noticed was how hard it was, so I thought I'd give it a try in the shower.

It's been more than a month now and it has barely worn down, I'd be on my third bar of Dial by this time usually.
But here's the neat part, lather up your washcloth and you only need a quick scrub and you're squeaky clean in no time, cuts my shower time by 5 minutes easy.

I thought I'd check to see if it was safe for this purpose and it is, here is what they say on their web site.

QuoteCAN I BATHE WITH ZOTE?

A lot of people in Mexico bathe with ZOTE. ZOTE is made with the same ingredients as a bath soap and the free alkalinty of both is similar (0.02% in bath soap and 0.04% in ZOTE soap) and therefore, they fulfill similar functions. Nevertheless, contrarily to a bath soap, Zote has additives that make it ideal for clothes care.

Try it, it comes in pink white and blue, I can't wait till this bar is gone so I can try another color, hopefully it'll have a better scent.
Though at the rate this stuff is wearing, that may very well be four long more months.
And the best part, it's about 90 cents for a bar, the size of four regular bars of soap, so you may want to cut it in fourths first.

Let me know what you think...

Seriously though, try this soap, not only does it clean far better than any bar soap, it will save you over a hundred bucks a year in bath soap, even more if you use liquids.

You can find it in the laundry isle at the grocery store.

Stores around here don't carry it, and I've frankly never heard of it before I read this thread. You California people live in your own world, semi-connected to the Mexican homeland, I guess.  :tounge:

It is a very popular laundry soap in the Southwest and in Mexico, but here in Ohio, and most places north and east of Texas, it is not available in stores and has to be mail ordered. Amazon.com will sell you a 25-bar pack for less than $30, but figure almost eleven bucks for shipping.

Is it similar to Fels- Napthe?  That is all the stores local to me carry for making laundry soap at home.

Yep, pretty much the same thing, and I'll be trying it in a year or two when this one runs out.
Wait, if this one runs out.

JustKari - I originally used the Fels-Napthe in my homemade laundry soap.  I love how clean it smells.  I then found the Zote on sale at Big Lots for .50 a bar.  Solar got a hold of it and you see what happened.  Today as I was grating the Fels-Napthe for my laundry soap he wanted to smell it.

I think I may have to start hiding my soaps.

On another note I was at my oldest daughters yesterday and she has been dying to make her own laundry detergent.  She wanted liquid so we found the recipe and cooked up a half batch which is one gallon.  The gallon should do about 32 loads.   Total cost for the gallon was around $1.20.  Cost per load .04 - her husband is super excited.  Toy

That is awesome!  I can sometimes get that good of a deal when couponing, but it just isn't the same, and I have to buy a lot because those deals are rare.  Have you ever tried home made soap in your laundry detergent?  My friend has an Amish recipe that she swears by that I would like to try sometime (when I have a month to wait for the soap to cure).

Nah, you didn't highjack it, but you did just remind me, to remind ST, to start on the home made soap she's been promising to make.

Actually I have been researching for awhile on making my own soap. (Yes Solar I saw the hint.)  Using lye makes me a little nervous as I am accident prone.  Does the Amish soap use lye.  I would love the recipe if you can share it.

So far this year I have given up all my pricey face cleaners, toners, and lotions and began using only natural items on my face.  My skin looks and feels amazing.  I even made some lotion bars but think I will need to up the amount of beeswax so they are not so soft.  Making my own cleaners and personal care items are becoming a big thing with me.  To many chemicals and things I can't pronounce in the store bought items.  Toy

I will ask her to copy the recipe for me next time I see her.  Typically, we talk for hours, realize that one of us is late for something, then we rush our goodbyes, which is why I keep forgetting to get it.  I won't forget this time.

I know what you mean about the lye though, scary stuff, especially with my kids around, plus all the extra equipment you need that can't be used for anything else.
