Great article, with lots of interesting advice.  Since we know the NSA is tracking everything we do some of these could maybe help make it a little more difficult.  Lord knows I can't give up my cell phone but maybe it's time to switch from the Iphone to something I can pop the battery out of.....

1. Lose the Cell Phone
It might be your digital lifeline, but when you're trying to hide, your cell phone is a digital bull's eye. Those with the access can easily triangulate your position based on your cell signal. You don't even need to make a call, as phones are always talking to towers to get the best signal available. A built-in GPS only makes it easier.

If you can, take out the battery. You can always pop it back in for a true emergency. You can also leave the phone somewhere to misdirect tracers. The latter is best if you've got a phone with a battery you can't access. (Apple iPhones are not for fugitives.)

There is also a program you can download for free to get the tags off your digital pictures.

. Erase Info from Pictures
If you're still in the habit of sending or posting digital pictures online, at the very least, strip out the EXIF data on the image file. This information includes the make of the camera, date and time the pic was taken, and, with some modern cameras, geographical location info. With enough pics and time, someone could easily figure out where you've been, if not where you're going. The free EXIFstripper program for Windows will do it.

Hello ST, nice see you on line.

I don't know if I would trust Windows, as I see them working with the government hand and hand in this day and age.  But that's just my way of thinking.  Other then that I like the article.

This is sooo important! Consider the fact that most people take pics of their house and surroundings, but claim that they are careful not to give away any details of an address. Not so fast...

But what if they've built a secret bunker and stocked it with food and weapons?
If they posted pics anywhere, they just gave their location away.
META data is that nasty little tag attached to every digital pic taken with a cell phone.

The very fact that, (law abiding), US citizens are talking about how to hide their communications and secure food for our inevitable demise, disgusts the hell out of me.

I understand that it's prudent thinking, but what the hell have we become?

Free people do not think of such things. We are no longer free.

Today, it's our own government that we feel the need to hide from.

Today, it's the actions of our own government that makes us feel the need to stockpile food.

This is not only wrong; it is unacceptable. I refuse to live in fear of the US government.

I will not stand by and watch my country be diminished to a banana republic dictatorship.

I have friends, relatives, and heroes that have fallen for this country.

I will never allow their deaths to be in vain. I cannot.

Now you know why we're building bunkers in remote areas.

Do they make some sort of small bag, or sleeve, you can slide your cell phone into, that prohibits a signal leaving the bag, sort of like the bags they used to have for photographic film so it wouldn't get exposed when going through airports?

I've read that cell phones even give off their location of you remove the battery, as they hold a small charge in the phone.

Would it have to be that fancy? What about something simply lined with foil?

Because the last time Solar wrapped his chestnuts in tinfoil, the neighbor's dog thought it was a steak from Ruths Chris.

Sure, but do you really want to unwrap and rewrap your phone every time?

The next time you go to the dentist, walk out of the office wearing the lead apron. Cut it into sleeves for your phones. Claim the action was all due to a bad reaction to the anesthetic.
