It amuses me that people buy generators to keep the refrigerator going after an EMP, when the compressor is going to go bad too.

Not to mention the electronics in the generator. That's why I always bought enclosed diesel gensets, they're protected, unlike an off the shelf gas model.
Besides, gas turns way to fast while diesel can keep for at least a year without issue.
