Title: Soccer
Post by: mdgiles on March 11, 2015, 09:06:55 AM
So I'm sitting there watching some Sportscaster (Colin Cowherd) and he starts in with his usual crap about how football is "dying" because mothers won't let their kids play this "dangerous" game. And I suddenly realize how damn tired I am of Leftists on TV pushing Soccer just because the rest of the world likes it. These are the people who will tell you MLB is "boring", but they want you to watch a bunch of guys run around, maybe kick a ball and fall down pretending to be injured. And mothers won't let their kids play football? Where - in San Francisco? Damn sure not in the Texas or the rest of the South. And those MidWest farm boys aren't going to go pantywaist either. Just because something becomes a fad in the elite enclaves, doesn't mean the rest of us are paying any attention to it. I think the only reason MLS is surviving is because of all the illegals this country is importing.

That not even counting all the head concussions from the ball in soccer.

Pretty much agree, but if anything is killing football, it's the whiny players and the refs that let them get away with acting like spoiled brats.
I quit watching prof sports when money became the sole purpose behind the sport, it's no longer about the game.

Football is like going to war, your out to win.  Unless  your a liberal.

As I remember Teddy was the one that got the flying wedge stopped.  He was a Republican but also was a founder of the Progressive Party.  I think he way also part of the start of Progressive Movement.

I just judge the sports on which injuries were the worst...

Soccer, technically, 'cuz I ran straight into a guardrail.  -20 stitches, or sew... so.
Football; pulled hamstrings.
Baseball; black eye.
Basketball; dislocated finger.
Snow-skiing; concussion.
Hockey; puck in protected groin.

Money has ALWAYS been the only reason behind professional sports. That's why they're professionals - because they get paid. Actually money is the reason behind a lot of amateur sports - it's just that a different set of people get most of the money, and the talent that makes the sport possible, gets an attaboy/girl!

I prefer watching college sports for that reason..... although I am not naive enough to think they are totally clean.

But at least the players are only playing for scholarships..... not millions of dollars.

I was hearkening back to the days when a team was made of of local talent, long before the free agent BS.

USA wins the World Cup 5-2.

Carli Lloyd with a hat-trick in the first 17 minutes.

Congrats to the USA-Women for a stick it to 'em offense-strategy disguised as a defense-strategy, to open the game.  Japan was immediately hoodwinked.  One of Lloyd's goals was a long-distance corker from mid-field, if you can believe it.  -In a 'World Class Event' ?  Stunning.

With respect to comments about women's teams, above, I agree with you about Midwest farm boys not givin' up their cleats and shoulder-pads. I too deplore baseball's glacial pace, but think it still produces more masculinity than any five brisk games of soccer. Soccer is a female sport.

Oh quiller, you are the first person I have heard express my sentiments on soccer.  It IS a girl sport IMO.

I love watching American football with men teams but NOT women teams.

Regardless of women's lib there is STILL a very distinct difference between the sports which best demonstrate the strengths of women vs. the sports which demonstrate the strengths of the male gender.

When I watch men's soccer I am under-impressed with their masculinity!

I agree, if a person has enough talent to get paid millions, go for it. I can sure respect that more than someone who did not have to work for it.
