Any advice? I have a Toshiba now.
I also have a Toshiba
Satellite A505
Processor Intell(R) Core (TM) i7 CPU
Q720 @ 1.60 GHz
Installed Memory (Ram) 4.00 GB can go up to 8 GB if needed
64 bit Operating System.
After using it for 3 month I like it so got my wife one.
Yeah, don't buy another Trashiba.
HP, or a Dell, at least you are getting quality.
I spent three grand on my Trashiba laptop and it was crap from the start, but the company strung me along, just long enough to avoid replacing it.

A Toshiba? The best thing to use is a Louisville Slugger. Be sure to grip low grip, bring over your head, get a lot of extension, jump, and use your weight to bring the bat down.
So it's HP or Dell..

hahah I was just kiddin... my first choice is always to smash and break things.
I think they are all pretty good nowadays. I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 that I have been using since 2004... but I am a buy 'n' hold type with my gadgets. I think if I were buying a new one, I would probably go with a Dell, but I have no reasoning behind it, aside from I just like my Dell right now.

I think so, they have an excellent tech support, and they have yet to send me to India for help.

Yeah because, I really hate long flights.....
Avoid Dell. Their quality has gone way downhill. Some of the worst tech support I ever experienced came from Dell. If you go HP avoid their Compaq brand.

The Inspiron line of Dell hardware is a good choice. They are home grade systems that have some very nice standard features.
With the Inspiron hardware any support you need will definately come from an off-shored support org, but the hardware is fairly decent.
If you get a 32 bit Windows 7 OS you will only be able to address about 3.5 to 3.7 GB of RAM so if the hardware comes standard with 4 GB you would be better off with a 64 bit version of Windows.
The Inspiron 17R will get you a good bit of screen real estate for a decent price and there are lots of options you can get for this system.

Bought my wife one for her birthday, got the wireless printer for it for $64. She loves the set up.
