Title: Bill Gates vs Gary Kildall - the history, Stolen!?
Post by: Hoofer on May 27, 2021, 11:12:39 AM
Ever wonder how it all got started...?  MS-DOS  Q-DOS  Did someone outsmart someone else...?

CP/M or MS-DOS...?  a Sad story, sad ending, for the guy who invented the Operating system, CP/M

Being the inventor isn't the key to success... knowing how to market is key.

This makes me think of Nikola Tesla.  Imagine his ideas being well marketed, where would we be today?

Sad he was killed, but not sure how the rest is sad.  Business, especially those days in that industry, is not for the faint of heart.

MS has never invented or developed any thing but that shitty little version of basic. All the rest since then been either bought or stolen.

Or the people with a conscience - I would do MUCH BETTER, if I just hired a marketing company.

MS-Basic was probably stolen or copied from several other Basics, P-Basic, Q-Basic, who knows.
I wrote & compiled a _LOT_ of MS-Basic code.  Still have it, and entire BBS in it.  It was one of the few programming languages that just handled "everything" I needed.  I could address COM ports directly, build and access databases in several different ways, it was quick, simple, and didn't require as much *time* to write/debug as C.   Bob Mahoney ran the other big BBS in Milwaukee, Exec PC, the big joke between us, our systems ran on CPM/80, but everyone thought we were running Windows... LOL

My skill is in R&D, not in marketing.  My kids easily outsell me at HAMfests.  They say I need a website - I don't have the time to do that.  The kids don't do R&D, it's up to me to produce a new product annually to hold the customer base.  and on-and-on.  Kids are also getting older and moving out - so I'm losing my sales staff too!
