By her criteria, Prince Charles and Vladimir Putin are also Cherokee.

My ancestors lived in the mountains of North Carolina but I'm many generations removed from my Cherokee blood. 
I never thought of calling myself a native American and taking advantage of the perks that go along with all minority groups. Except plain old white people, of course..
