It's funny, the rainbow nation was supposed to show a nation led by black Africans could bring about prosperity and equality but turned out some Africans are more equal than other Africans which are the communist Unions and one party state members. Now the closed socialist market which favors family ties or membership to the ANC has created more than 50% unemployment among youths and a slowly decaying economy with more and more illegal immigrants flooding in from all over Africa creating more unemployment, stress on welfare services and rampant crime a situation Zuma's party created and now the people are taking matters into their own hands. At least this creates a scapegoat solution for the communist party which can condemn the attacks while at the same time blame the unemployment on illegal immigrants and not the socialist economy.
Botswana is the only African country with prosperity, and it is led by black African conservatives but since they are conservative we never hear about their progress.
If things continue then there will not be long until Europeans start doing the same, muslims will be majority population in Europe within 20 years if the pre 2012 immigration rate continues, and it has already increased and will probably continue to increase due to Sunni vs Shia war in ME. I'm still not sure if this is part of the leftist plan to create a war between ethnic Indo-Europeans and immigrants in order to concentrate power into the dominant labor parties and blame economic depression on immigrants or if they are just trying to bring in as many new leftist voters as possible to cling on to power for as long as possible until welfare implodes and people start chopping each other up... :huh:

Okay, reality check. Mandela was a communist for the same reason that many American blacks were communists. They were the only ones that even pretended to care about racial injustice in their respective countries. BTW, Communists have screwed up lily white nations like Russia, and yellow nations like China, and even brown nations like most of Latin America, so stop making it only about race.

I'm not making it about race, which is why I included Botswana as a country that is doing better economically than most European countries because it is led by black African conservatives. Communists and Socialists are one and the same, that Russian nation was named Union of Soviet Socialist Republics after all, why would they call themselves Socialist if they were not socialist?

A good place to start is the excellent history text, "The Afrikaners", by Hermann Giliomee.
It was written in 2003, so it pretty much covers things right up until the present sorry mess. Although it's written from the perspective of the Afrikaners, it is broadly inclusive. And while Giliomee is certainly no 'boetie' he remains righteously objective throughout the narrative, warts and all. It's available on Amazon.

Btw do you live in SA? From what I know from a friend who lives there of Norwegian heritage it is almost impossible to get a job if you are without connections to the communist organizations or ANC. He is highly educated with phd and speaks 5 languages fluently, he got a job at a foreign embassy after 12 years though working directly for that country. His father was a war veteran that did not want to emigrate because of patriotism in order to build up the country, now tragically it is impossible for his son to leave as he is white he is not allowed to emigrate to Norway or Europe.
Did the war generation see the ANC tyranny coming? Or did the corruption slowly creep in?
When SA was handed over to the ANC for majority rule in '94 everyone knew the possible outcome but was so sick and guilt ridden of apartheid that they were willing to take a massive leap of faith.
Now the older generation of Afrikaners are pretty much collectively saying, 'Ek het jou gese' (I told you so).
Mandela did his best for reconciliation for practical purposes; the whites were the engine of the economy. And even today, there are many who are not corrupt. But the kleptocracy and incompetence are rampant. Unemployment is sky high, and crime is even higher.
My wife and I are visiting next year with another couple (my crazy Dutch friend from high school, and his wife). But we'll be staying in the Western Cape area mostly, except for a quick visit to Kruger Park and the Voortrekker Monument.
