The upside to a collapsed dollar

I know, but I thought what would be the upside to a seriously weakened dollar?

I look to the former USSR, that part of the world now appears to have more freedoms than we do.
With less money, the Fed cannot keep it's workforce in place, with less people to enforce EPA rules etc, the more we would become accustomed to being on our own, more independent.

For some this is a terrifying thought, much like getting kicked out of the house at an early age and suddenly having to feed, clothe and find shelter, sucking up every penny you have.

I say , so what! Life was never designed to be easy for a reason, and suddenly people are thrust back into life and experiencing a whole new way of life.
Maybe it's the optimist in me, but I see a collapse of a liberal system as a good thing.

I agree....to a point.  True, there are those of us that know how to hunt, fish, grow gardens, and get by.  Like Hank Jr. said, a country boy can survive.  It is those who do NOT know how to do these things that worry me.  How long would it be before those who can't started trying to rob from those who can?  I feel certain in my belief that there are a lot more "can nots" than "cans".  I see the liberal system collapse as a precursor to civil unrest.  I am already trying to get my family to change their mind set to one that includes the possibility of having to pay with their lives to protect what is ours.

I agree, there would be some serious disruptions, but most in big cities.
I look at Russia after the collapse, there were bread lines, but fighting was at a minimum.

I guess it would all depend at the speed in which a collapse would take, the slower the better.

I look to my own state, Ca. The sooner it goes under, the better, though painful, the sooner it fails, the sooner we can rebuild.

I agree with you to a point.  Some that live in the city will immediately understand what is going on and will seek out a means to survive.  Unfortunately, there are also a huge number of people who will assume that "someone" is fixing the problem and that they will be okay soon.
Think about hurricane Sandy, those people put up with horrible conditions with the understanding that the government would eventually get it right.

Excellent observation, just like Russia, there were many that kept waiting for that Govt stipend that never came.
Even the Military weren't being paid, yet they stayed on for months.
The Russians have a saying, we'll pretend to work, just as you pretend to pay us, or something like that.
It became a way of life, but their collapse was a slow one, so people had time to adapt, I don't know if we will be as lucky.

The Russian experience has one factor like the nordic socialist situation - a very white, homogenous culture, with virtually none of the 3rd-world transplants or PC-favored groups that have grown to expect / demand capitulation for every desire.

When the USSR collapsed, it was still a very homogenous, nationalistic, Mother-Russia populace.  They basically sucked it up and persevered, for that outlook.

When the tap runs dry in America, the Obama 51% will have absolutely no interest in America or preserving / rebuilding her.

That's why their will be anarchy and violence.

Though I've heard some interesting things lately.  First that the devaluation of the dollar and loss of international standard, could very well help us pay off the debt easier with fewer pressures / no inflation / cheaper rates.

And second, how we may be on the cusp of taking over as the world's owner of oil / nat gas production, which could start up an American renaissance as an economic engine.

Thoughts on those  ?
