Not trying to feed into any conspiracy theory but simply looking at the very unfortunate timing of his death; during the primary before the general election. When I heard of his death the very first thing that entered my mind was foul play.

Webb Hubbell, Ron Brown and Vince Foster do come to mind among the many convenient deaths which became associated with the Clintons. Put nothing past those two.

I agree. Obama is no dummy. He saw the numbers in the senate and had to know an appointment with less than a year in his term would go nowhere.

Not to mention we controlled both Houses which stopped the left in their tracks.
Sadly it was his time and America suffered for it. Now it's up to Trump to keep his word.

back to the Ted Cruz for SCOTUS idea.

IMO, anytime we can transfer a solid constitutional conservative from a temporary position (ie. elected) to a lifetime position, we ought to do it.  The big PLUS, Texas should have no trouble finding a good, replacement for Ted's senate seat.

The reverse is also a good idea, offer Mitch McConnell an ambassadorship to Argentina or Columbia (to get him out-of-the-way)... tell him, "Hey, Mitch, why wouldn't you wanna spend winters in a nice warm climate instead of frigid DC...?  and, you know American Dollars go a long way in Argentina, you could live like a KING!"

Promote people from Conservative states and they're likely to be replaced with another conservative - you have increased your position.
