Texas Governor Greg Abbott admonished Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez over her recent decision to consider honoring immigration detainers on a "case-by-case" basis. The governor said sanctuary city policies like this will "no longer be tolerated in Texas."

Governor Abbott wrote the tersely worded letter to Sheriff Valdez after her decision to scale back on honoring immigration detainers sent to her jail by the federal government's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Her announcement was reported by Breitbart Texas on October 12.

"'Sanctuary City' policies like those promoted by your recent decision to implement your own case-by-case immigrant detention plan will no longer be tolerated in Texas," Abbott began in his letter attached below. "Your decision to not fully honor U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement's (ICE) requests to detain criminal immigrants poses a serious danger to Texans. These detainers provide ICE with the critical notice and time it needs to take incarcerated immigrants into federal custody."

"Your refusal to fully participate in a federal law enforcement program intended to keep dangerous criminals off the streets leaves the State no choice but to take whatever actions are necessary to protect our fellow Texans," Abbott continued. "Now more than ever, it is essential that state, federal, and local law enforcement work collaboratively to protect our fellow Texans and to ensure that our laws are upheld, not disregarded."

Can the state actually do something about an elected sheriff doing this though?
One of every five Americans you meet has a mental illness of some sort. Many, many, of our veteran's suffer from mental illness like PTSD now also. Help if ya can. :) http://www.projectsemicolon.org/share-your-story.html

I heard there were several sanctuary cities in TX.

They had an anti-sanctuary city Senate bill proposed last year, that for some reason got hung up and I can't find that it ever passed.

If I'm not mistaken, the Texas legislature only meets every two years.

Apparently there are numerous sanctuary cities in Texas.

Looks like the Texas Governor Greg Abbott will have his hand full.

Yep, but he is up to the task I assure you!

He is going to be gathering his chicks (cities) under his wings!  He is a man with a mission.  He will likely  have the best legacy of any Texas Governor.  I am thrilled with this man!!!

I knocked a lot of doors wearing an Abbott t-shirt last year.  I knew he would be a national treasure!

We need to do more, we need to get out and contact those who lost loved ones, were victimized by or suffered loss  due to illegal alien crime. Should those incidents arise out of sanctuary city policy then the PUBLIC OFFICIALS of said city supporting or maintaining such policy should BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE IN A CIVIL SUIT.

Let me expaln further, some years ago, a Houston Police officer was killed by an illegal whom he had previously arrested, the suspect was released under the very same Policy as above rather than remanded to ICE for deportation. When the officer approached the suspect again, knowing of a warrant for his arrest for NON APPEARANCE he was killed, leaving a widow and a small child.

The city should have been sued by the widow for malfeasance or for allowing such policy in the first place. You can bet that if these city and even Govt boobocrats were getting slapped with lawsuits left and right by vicitms or their survivors
the practice would stop.

We need to get this concept to the victims rights groups and make the legal system work for us for a change.

Good point, Billy.  Our State AGs should go to bat for the victims.

Obama uses the Federal AG to go to bat for the Black Panthers, against police in several national cases, and against conservatives.

Why aren't we doing that at a State level against the law breakers?  We obviously should!  Texas is doing this and other States should follow suit!

AG's will not do it, you need these victim advocacy groups to initiate a civil suit on behalf of the victims.

Your state may vary, but in Ohio:
The Ohio Revised Code includes a section that states that
any law enforcement officer (presumably including a sheriff)
who fails to enforce a law that they should have enforced
can be criminally charged with "dereliction of duty."
It is a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment for less than one year.
Here are the 10 RINOs who voted to impeach Trump on Jan. 13, 2021 - NEVER forget!
WY  Liz Cheney      SC 7  Tom Rice             WA 4  Dan Newhouse    IL 16  Adam Kinzinger    OH 16  Anthony Gonzalez
MI 6  Fred Upton    WA 3  Jaime Herrera Beutler    MI 3  Peter Meijer       NY 24  John Katko       CA 21  David Valadao

That is exactly what might happen here in Texas.  This line in the sand is drawing a lot of attention and veiled threats!  Abbott won't tolerate it!
