This gives pause to think....how 'bout we renouce our citizenship and stay right where we are. No taxes, free health care and benefits due to illegal status.....

As millions of Americans are scrambling to get their tax returns postmarked by this evening, a smaller sect did something much more drastic and renounced their US citizenship.
Last year alone, almost 1,800 people renounced their U.S. citizenship or handed in their Green Cards – and many of them said it was because of tax reasons.
That's a record number since the Internal Revenue Service began publishing a list of those who renounced in 1998. It's also almost eight times more than the number of citizens who renounced in 2008, and more than the total for 2007, 2008 and 2009 combined.

Meanwhile, the resident muslim refuses to prove he actually IS an American, and his illegal immigrant relatives go un-deported.

The article is a bit misleading. I know of several people, mostly former military, who just went overseas and stayed. There is quite a large expat community in the Philippines and in Thailand, many of whom told the US to piss up a rope years ago due to it's BS taxation policies. The "exit tax" is also a little flakey since many of the "rich" already have bank accounts overseas and the US doesn't have reporting treaty's with all of them.  If there is no treaty in place, the IRS is barking up a tree when it comes to arresting these expats.

The main talking point of the article is the rapid increase in the expats. Do they know something we should other than the tax policies?

Yep- it's cheaper to live in a lot of other country's, and just as safe. Those expats are voting with their feet.

As an Expat, I will NEVER renounce my citizenship....I might liquidate all my property and take all my assets out of the US if Hussein wins another term, but I'd never turn in my passport etc...how would I get back when the fighting actually starts?

Several people I know have moved to Costa Rica in the past few years. Another friend moved to Australia about 30 years ago. He was originally from the Bronx. He told me "The US is the insane asylum of the world" - and then he said "And the Bronx is the insane asylum of the US"

Everyday I see more and more retired types moving to Asia from the US....they all say the same thing.

Not a problem, we will first take control of the border and entry points to insure only the ones we want in can get in. Something our goobermint can't do......so they say.
