If we are to believe the reports of the Russian defeats on the battlefield, we should not take too much comfort for future conflict. The first thing the Russian military should do is look at what went wrong and make sure that doesn't happen next time. That will make things more dangerous.
But then, after reading the Guns Of August (Barbara Tuchman) and August 1914 (Solzhenitsyn), the Russian Army doesn't make it a habit to correct their mistakes until the enemy is at the gates of Moscow.
