About time!

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Postal Service will stop delivering mail on Saturdays but continue to deliver packages six days a week under a plan aimed at saving about $2 billion annually, the financially struggling agency says.

In an announcement scheduled for later Wednesday, the service is expected to say the Saturday mail cutback would begin in August.

The move accentuates one of the agency's strong points — package delivery has increased by 14 percent since 2010, officials say, while the delivery of letters and other mail has declined with the increasing use of email and other Internet services.

Does anyone still miss black-and-white television in an age of Skype, YouTube, or other substitutes for the U.S. Snail? I have no pity on an agency which refuses to get tough with Congress and get the rates hiked for bulk mail. Politicians are exempted anyway, so there's no other reason for artificially low bulk rates.

It's the federal government plain and simple.  Look at UPS..FedEx..they are not having any trouble and are well in the black.  Bulk rates should be hiked.  However here is one of the best pieces of evidence of the government dis-function.  The Postal Service is federal government...the IRS is federal government.  The IRS has the ability to control at least one piece of mail for every working American...their tax return.  However, the IRS in all of it's infinite wisdom REQUIRES that if you use a paid preparer you must E-FILE!

IMHO it's the service that stinks. I have never had a next day mail piece make it the next day. I will spend the extra money for GOOD SERVICE. I used to buy and sell property and do a lot of bidding and used to do closing thru the mail. Nothing but problems with USPS. Then they BS you with a straight face and insist it's next day after it gets to the local PO.
Fed-Ex has always worked and they will stand there while you sign a contract and take it right back with them no questions asked.
