I was under the impression that no one from the 5 premanent members of the Security Council could be named Secretary General of the U.N..

He simply gives up his American citizenship. Maybe he'll become a citizen of Kenya.

We said that last time too.  But it keeps getting worse.  :scared:

So he's running for another seat he is neither qualified for, nor has to really be elected to... I guess that's pretty predictable.

So why is our UN representative "selected" rather than "elected."  It seems awfully un-democratic.

That was the same reasoning people used when they voted to ratify the 17th Amendment!!!  That absolutely killed the sovereignty of the States!

There are some things in which the people are not the best avenue for making decisions.  The Founders wanted us to elect a representative from our own community but NOT our Senator.  They should be "appointed" by the State Houses and held accountable to them.  The Senate has the most power in Congress.  That kept the States in control of a third of the federal government.

Our rep to the U.N. is so important that the general public is quite frankly not enlightened enough to be involved in that process.  The executive branch is best suited to pick our rep.

Having said that, Obama is not wanting to be our Rep to the U.N.  He wants to be the Director General of the U.N.  Big difference!

I believe the Directors are selected by the Security Council of the U.N.  Someone correct me if I am wrong about that.

I think those are two completely different things.  Senators were accountable to the states through the selection of representatives in the state.  The UN ambassador is accountable to who?  The president?  Beyond that, ;th eUS shouldn't even be in the UN.  It is not in anyway beneficial to us.  It's entire being is to subjugate us, and every other country on earth to the will of the world.

All that said... I object to the seventeenth amendment.  I object to the UN. (note the unmodified periods at the ends of those sentences) So, moving the deck chairs around on it, ain't going to make it any more appealing.

Might be interesting if he tried to.

About 20 years ago the ship I was assigned to made a port call in Mobassa Kenya. All of the black guys were excited about visiting the their "ancestral homeland". I guess they expected to be welcomed home as conquering heroes, or prodigal sons or something like that. They were in for a rude awakening!

The Kenyans could care less about the color of our sailors skin. Black or White, we were all just American sailors to sell stuff to, period. The only color they were interested in was the color of our money!

Once he leave the office, I'm pretty sure Kenya and the rest of the world won't give a rats ass about Obama.

Report: Netanyahu to lead effort in thwarting Obama bid for UN chief position
By YASSER OKBI/ MAARIV HASHAVUA

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remembers well just how US President Barack Obama brushed aside Israeli objections and went ahead with the P5+1 nuclear agreement with Iran.

Now, Netanyahu is reportedly planning some personal payback.

According to the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida, Netanyahu will make common cause with moderate Arab governments in order to sabotage Obama's plan to succeed Ban Ki-moon when the South Korean diplomat ends his term as United Nations secretary-general on December 31 of this year.

Aren't countries that are permanent members of the security council excluded from that position?

Why would Obama think that "rules" would thwart his ambitions?  He has never played by anyone's rules.  Why start now?
