I know some Libs and maybe evena few Conservs aren't gonna like this but here goes.
The Navy has announced that it is going to name a ship after former Congress woman Gabrielle Giffords who was shot down in Arizona about a year ago and who made a miraculous recovery.
I'm glad she survived, I think her recovery was inspirational and I beleive she should be honored....but Naming a Ship after her?...sorry.
I think we should name a ship after any one of the dozens of true Heros who were also shot down in Iraq or Ghanny and recovered or didn't and were awarded a medal Post humonstly.
But thats just me.

I have to going along with you Billy. Name something in Arizona after her or a street in W.D.C. Next they will name a ship after widebody. :sad:

Maybe we need to rename the Grand Canyon after FDR, considering the hole he drove the country into.
Next they will want to rename the Titanic "The Obama". Oh wait...
I dunno but this is supposed to be a combat ship...you know, big guns, ship to shore missles, destruction, fire power, mayhem....I somehow think Rep Giffords wouldn't want her name on a ship that mnight be used in the future to blow something up an kill people...even an enemy.

That's a really good point. naming the ship after her is sort of crass.
Naming anything after a living politician of ANY party is simply bad and nakedly partisan politics. At least wait until after she's dead.

Probably because it never occurred to them, or because there isn't any hospital ship being built to replace the ones already afloat.

It's bad enough they held her seat in Congress open all this time. To name a military ship after someone just because they got shot is a slap in the face to those who actually died protecting this country. Gun control pretty much died, when it was shown to do nothing to stop crime. All it did was provide the criminals with unarmed victims.
