Title: More nonsense in Chicago public schools
Post by: DaisyJane on April 21, 2014, 12:05:02 PM
I am a graduate of the Chicago public school system.  I believe I was given a fabulous education.

I'm guessing 99% of the students graduated and we had ONE known pregnancy at graduation time.  There were no guns and even knives were rare.

Fast forward to now.  Just read an article from "Daily Caller" via Drudge Report that the Chicago public school system is going to integrate (ha ha) more "Afro Centric" curriculum.  This in conjunction with Common Core.

One issue mentioned is including the concept of "white privilege."  Great - let's just fan the flames.  Black History Month is not enough I guess.

I don't see how being ANYTHING centric really helps education.  We were given our requirements, and HAD to have them to graduate.  Silly things like English, Math, foreign language, Social Studies, etc.

This is just putting more taxpayer money into the toilet.

Question DaisyJane. Since you attended Chicago public schools you obviously have some good insight into how the system has evolved.

Knowing the teacher union is quite strong in Chicago am I correct teacher pay and benefits are quite high. If so, then one would surmise that expense per pupil is also quite high? Have the citizens of Chicago gotten their money's worth from both a fiscal and quality of education standpoint? Now the big question, is there any citizen outrage over the situation?

They do indeed have a very strong teacher's union.  New York has a higher cost per pupil.  However, Chicago spends more on administration per pupil.  Rahm Emanuel and the head of the teacher's union are not good friends!

The problem is probably mostly students.  You can't blame children, but their social situations.  Without strong parental involvement, most kids won't do well.  I grew up in Chicago, and this chaos was confined to small areas.  Now, with the influx of Hispanics and white flight out of the city, you are left with chaos.

Since Democrats encourage a dependent state, this will only get worse.  Citizens vote for the handout candidates, and the cycle goes on.

This isn't fixable as long as the status quo is accepted.

You get one or more executives or officers in an organization who
are on to that "white privilege" idea, are vocal and aggressive, who
have some support within the organization, either true sympathy or just
cowardly intimidated, and they can raise hell in the organization.

White privilege is one of the most effective mantras the activists have
come up with in years, and they know it. I first heard it in 1999, during the
W. Bush administration.  As George's popularity dipped, the mantra gained
momentum. I am not surprised to hear it is bigger than ever. Of course, it is
a natural for Obama.

It did not take long for school desegregation to devolve into the old "us and them"
lines. I think this is all in the plan, but that is probably just my cynical viewpoint.

Again. I blame the liberals and Unionists. Everything they touch goes to hell.

Since the overwhelming majority of the school population in Chicago is no longer white, there is no point to desegregation!!

It's no accident that the performance of the school system is so poor compared to when I was in it.
