Justice Kennedy retiring; Trump gets 2nd Supreme Court pick
By MARK SHERMAN, Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy says he is retiring. That will give President Donald Trump the chance to cement conservative control of the high court.

The 81-year-old Kennedy said Wednesday he is stepping down after more than 30 years on the court. A Republican appointee, he has held the key vote on such high-profile issues as abortion, affirmative action, gay rights, guns, campaign finance and voting rights.

This is not a surprise, but the timing is as as good as possible. Trump can nominate a true conservative and McConnell has time to get the judge confirmed before the next congress. Schumer will do all he can to delay any new appointment as as he can.

Man, I love Democratic Underground.

You all need to go there and read it all up, like a joyful meal lol.

Those folks are pitiful and just not of this world.  It's like a study of brain damage and retardation.

Just random shit, but really really weird ....... severe hating of Susan Sarandon and Jill Stein for getting in Hillary's way ......... proclaiming that "we were not hard enough on the south after the civil war" ...... WE WILL NOT ALLOW a Trump nominee .....we must elect a democrat congress who will pass laws and tell the SC that they can't say anything about them.............

wow, fukadukwearingmukluks .... just crazeee

Here is some some additional info with potential nominees. What I liked about the article is McConnell is quoted as saying there will be a vote this fall. One wonders how the left will handle this. More cold water on the Blue Wave.

Damn! It didn't take long for democrats to begin twisting themselves into knots over this. Watching FNC Chuckie has been on the senate floor saying there should not be a replacement vote in an election year and anyone on the previous possible nominee list is not acceptable. My response - TS    . Also, Kamala Harris has come out opposed to any nominee -  .

Folks, this going to be fun.

President Donald Trump is deflecting a question on whether he should wait until after the midterm elections to announce a successor to retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Trump says in the Oval Office that he hasn't "really thought about that. I think you want to go as quickly as possible."

Chris Matthews: Democrats Shouldn't Even Allow Meetings With Trump's Supreme Court Nominee

I would think there's a procedure that allows whoever shows up to move along without those who don't.  You can't just shut down the govt by not showing up to work.

There is a hilarious audio out there with Brazile calling some leftist operatives to tell them of the tragedy.

OMG, it is phenomenal.  Bunch of guys literally howling and moaning and crying.  It's what you would expect from somebody upon being told that THE OTHER Kennedy had been shot.

I am loving life right now. We are so lucky to be alive here & now.

The left cant say that the court should be nuetral because you know hildog would have stacked it as far left as possible in the name of progress and a changing america.

Abortion has been in the backround for awhile but now it is being thrust to the forefront, and this right after the dems claimed to be fighting for KIDS at the border. They want to help foriegn kids but not american babies, how sad. How are they gonna handle it if trump picks a prolife female? Antiwoman? Aunt Tom?

Indeed Kennedy's retirement gives Trump a trans-formative opportunity.
Yet be very cautious of rhino's such as McCain, Flake, among others,
who loathe Trump and may be inclined to vote no out of spite.
Suggest Trump exert maximum pressure on vulnerable D's running in
Nov. as a counter to the possibility of this happening.

Chris, thanks for confirming what an irrational dumb ass you are. How are the democrats going to stop meetings between the nominee and GOP senators? If democrat senators don't want to meet - fine - just speeds up the process. The only problem I see is assholes like Flake and Corker gumming up the works.

Now the morons at DU are waxing dumbassedly that "Presidents under investigation are not allowed to nominate justices"

Is everybody on that site 15 years old and younger ?

Man I love to read it.  Makes me so happy that they are the core of the dems.  It's my new guilty pleasure.

I think the President should get Mike Lee through first, since it should be an easier confirmation. That will close the deal and swing the court, and when RBG finally doesn't wake up for one of her mid-day naps, nominate Amy Barret.  She's young, and will force the Dems to go against a woman.

I would have argued that RBG has passed on and has been replaced with a robot, but robots are much more life like and intelligent so I guess she is still there on the court.
