WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy says he is retiring. That will give President Donald Trump the chance to cement conservative control of the high court.
The 81-year-old Kennedy said Wednesday he is stepping down after more than 30 years on the court. A Republican appointee, he has held the key vote on such high-profile issues as abortion, affirmative action, gay rights, guns, campaign finance and voting rights.

This is not a surprise, but the timing is as as good as possible. Trump can nominate a true conservative and McConnell has time to get the judge confirmed before the next congress. Schumer will do all he can to delay any new appointment as as he can.

Here is some some additional info with potential nominees. What I liked about the article is McConnell is quoted as saying there will be a vote this fall. One wonders how the left will handle this. More cold water on the Blue Wave.

I would think there's a procedure that allows whoever shows up to move along without those who don't. You can't just shut down the govt by not showing up to work.

I would have argued that RBG has passed on and has been replaced with a robot, but robots are much more life like and intelligent so I guess she is still there on the court.
