Too funny.
CBS reporter arrested on drug charges
A veteran CBS Radio News correspondent was arrested early Saturday on drug charges after police searched his Northwest Washington home, and found marijuana plants growing in his yard, authorities said.
Police arrested Howard Arenstein and his wife at their home in the 3500 block of T Street and charged them with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Arenstein is married to Orly Azoulay, Washington correspondent for Yedioth Ahronoth, the largest and most widely read newspaper in Israel.
Police executed a search warrant at the home Saturday after a tip from an area resident, and found 11 fully mature marijuana plants and six two-ounce bags of marijuana inside the home. Each plant is considered by authorities to equal one pound of marijuana. Early Saturday evening, the porch light of the home was on and there was a small pile of mail on the doorstep, but no one answered the door.
According to the CBS news site, Arenstein has supervised coverage and reported on major Washington stories such as the disputed 2000 presidential election, the September 11th hijackings, the war in Iraq and the DC area sniper shootings. You can follow Arenstein on Twitter.
(Update, 7:36 p.m.: Arenstein's Twitter account appears to be no longer functional.)

11 plants?? That's a lot of greenage... He should get intent to distribute, right?
I was wondering why he starts all his corespondents with "Dude"..
Its a misdemeanor, no matter how much Pot you have, grow, cultivate or sale, it is still a misdemeanor, they will NOT charge federal for mandatory minimum under 841a, Holder made sure of that when he was the DC US Attorney in charge.
So slap on the wrist at best.

Wow!
Holder also raised the mandatory minimums on federal prosecution to 50 grams of Crack (from the statutory 5 grams) then later 100 grams, even with indicia of sale. He did this by memo.

That is crazy!!! Why do you think he did that?
Lots of reasons, officially he said the system was overwhelmed (he was right) but lots of us think He didn't like the fact that so many young black men where being locked up by the big bad police for selling crack and coming into federal court with the Mandatory miniumum cases (which mandates a five years Federal prison term).
Holder used to nit pick a lot of cases and especially the RICO cases we brought him.

Hes hiding..just read theres a stack of mail he hasnt taken in by his house and hes shut down his twitter site..

Why is it a crime?
Full disclosure, I haven't smoked weed in decades but there is not a single legitimate reason to justify it being illegal period. That is other than too much money is being made by a select few with it being illegal. It's time to stop wasting an obscene amount of money on it's prohibition.
