Florida Governor Ron DeSantis 'to allow armed citizens to shoot suspected looters and rioters' who target businesses in an expansion of the state's Stand Your Ground law

Gov Ron DeSantis drafted 'anti-mob' legislation that would expand Florida's Stand Your Ground law

It would allow armed citizens to shoot suspected looters or anyone engaged in 'criminal mischief' that disrupts a business

The proposal came in response to months of protests against police brutality which have sometimes been accompanied by violence and looting

It would also make it a third-degree felony to block traffic during a protest

Drivers who claim to have unintentionally killed or injured protesters who block traffic would be immune from prosecution

DeSantis pledged in September to crack down on 'violent and disorderly assemblies' that occurred after the death of George Floyd killed by a white cop

His proposal sparked outcry from critics who called it dangerous, unconstitutional and 'clearly political'

To the lefties on this forum (especially joe): will you condemn being prosecuted for defending oneself?

Well, I have to say, I didn't think DeSantis had the balls. Good for him!

Dana Loesch says that "stand your ground" means
you ALREADY have the right to defend yourself
ANYWHERE you're legally allowed to be.

Therefore, the existing law already approves the right to defend your business.

Some might argue that there's a difference between
your business being threatened and you yourself being threatened.

If DeSantis' action makes the law clearer, then that's a good thing.

The 2d Amedt IMPLIES YOUR RIGHT OF SELF DEFENSE, rioting and looting pose threats to your life and property.  Thugs running amok beating people in the streets, setting fires (Arson) poses an extreme threat, people burn to death during fires, smoke inhalation claims the health and possible the lives of firefighters.

Rioting and mob action constitutes DEADLY FORCE, countering that deadly force to protect oneself and others is only reasonable extention of your right to self defense.

Stand your ground protects you from liability! you cannot be sued! it is the main point of the law. you could while exercising you right to self defense not have criminal charges brought against you. Stand your ground releases you from Civil penalties from wrongful death and injury suits! Think of the store owner that shoots a robber and then is sued for the damages! Stand your ground is meant to stop those lawsuits and works!
