Starting w/Idaho of all places...

Of course the video has been removed, but its an interesting read of how Obama is selling us out to the Chinese...

Quote
Top Idaho officials have been traveling to China and entertaining the Chinese here, in order to help facilitate this. Idaho is a resource rich state and the Chinese know it, as does Obama, who keeps snatching Idaho land. Otter, Obama and the attack on business in America paves the way for China to own us. A Chinese firm is building a fertilizer plant in American Falls Idaho. Ironic. China has bought fifty square miles of land south of Boise, thirty thousand acres of Idaho gone to foreign nationals. Governor Otter says this will help reinvigorate our American industrial base. Just how this will do it, since the plants will be staffed with foreign nationals is a question that remains unanswered.

Yes and 20 years ago Japan was going to own us.
It turn out that Japan had structural faults in their economy and society, that only appeared later.
Now look at China. There is a huge gap between those who are benefiting from the the new economy and those who aren't.
The Chinese government is finding it more and more difficult to maintain the level of economic growth, so much of it is based on lsbor cost advantages - and Chinese workers aren't content to remain poor. Too much of their economy is held down by inefficient State industries, which are difficult to reform as they form one of the pillars of the ruling Communist Party. Corruption is on a scale, that's mind boggling. And we've already seen localized revolts. One of the reasons the Chinese government is so obsessed with control of the internet, is to keep people from one region of China from finding out about discontent in other regions of China. They've blown immense amounts of government money building cities which no one will, or can afford too, live in. China tried to adopt a free market economy, without also adopting the necessary freedoms to make it run efficiently. China is a mess. The reason you don't hear more about it is the love affair that the leftist media has with authoritarianism. They refuse to admit that government control doesn't work - as they believe it does.

China's setting up for a massive collapse. Their growth has to plateau at some point.

That said, I wouldn't put it past them to do anything to try and keep up their growth.

Their growth is based on their export industries. Export industries need someone to export to. The economic crisis in Europe can't be helping them. Nor can continued economic problems in the 3rd World. Eventually they're going to have to turn to internal markets. But raising the standard of overall living in China means their labor cost advantages goes out the window. And that may be the only reason anyone does business with them. Why have your stuff made halfway around the world in China - where there's a good chance the technology will be stolen - when you can do it closer to home if there's no advantage in having it done in China?

Yeah, Giles beat me to it, the screaming was over Japan owning us, then their economy damn near collapsed.
Its not like China can take this land and go back to China with it, its here, they can only hold title .
I guess if I were a neighbor to this, it might concern me, but in the big picture, its really nothing.

......except the fact that within the 50 sq mile area the chinese get to operate independent of US law and to chinese law. I could care less how they punish their own but IF an American breaks a chinese law that is legal here in the US the chinese need to obey American law when dealing with American citizens.
Their autonomy is what concerns me.

Also the chinese concerns for the environment stink, look at the Yellow River in China, how will they treat OUR water and soil. Remember they can't take the land with them............. nor the pollutants.
I thought I was wrong one time but I was mistaken.

How do they get to operate independent of US law on US soil. I don't recall us signing an extraterritoriality treaty with China.

I am not sure. I read where the governor of Idaho was pissed because of it. The feds said it was part of the payback conditions of the increased borrowing from China.

I wish I could provide a link. Maybe some of you more savy 'puter operators can do a search.

Where in the article does it state that they will operate free of American laws?

I looked hard and can't find evidence that a 50 sq mile area has been sold to the Chinese.
All I've found is where they want to build a fertilizer plant.

You are aware that the Governor is the very person the article in the OP is cursing, are you not?

OK, lets put this BS to rest!

"Given what they're reading, they are rightfully concerned," said Dietrich, director of the Idaho Department of Commerce. "But what they are reading is in some cases nonsense."

Much of the attention stems from what he told the Statesman a year ago, just before Gov. Butch Otter led a trade mission to China. The state has been looking for foreign investment to boost the economy here, and there is one foreign country with more investment potential than all the others.

"The Chinese are looking for a beachhead in the United States," Dietrich said then.

The quote got a new life on the Internet starting six months later, when the Statesman wrote about a proposal to develop a technology zone south of the Boise Airport, broached with state and city officials in December by representatives of the China National Machinery Industry Corp.

A host of bloggers have reported that the zone has already been sold or that Idaho was looking at turning over a 55-square mile area to the Chinese government.

None of that is true — or even allowed under U.S. law. But that hasn't stopped right-wing bloggers and the John Birch Society from turning exaggerated claims about the proposal and Idaho's efforts to attract Chinese investment into a conspiracy.

"It just isn't possible to develop Little China in Idaho," Dietrich said. "U.S. labor laws don't allow it."

My pleasure.
I searched deep to find it.
The blogs are full of misleading info, but it just didn't sound right to me, so I typed in Chinese land 50 sq miles lie, and found the one single link to the original story.

This is why we have so many lurkers, people know we try and find the truth instead of jumping on the conspiracy band wagon.
