While you are in the states, swing by Texas so you can add another country to your research. It will not be hard to find conservatives.

If you are going to spend your time in large NE US cities you will not get a true feel for how the country thinks.

Another country?
Currently planning on visiting Virginia Beach. Supposed to be one of the most conservative places according to academic research done in 2015.

Virginia beach is Okay, lot of tourists so that changes the flavor somewhat...I've also noted it is a vacation spot for LOTS of people from Canada, notably Quebec who come there during the summer months.

You might run into some bikers, not the "outlaw" type but usually the weekend warriors who are a great bunch of folks.

Try visiting some other towns in Virginia, (Avoid hi crime Richmond) head west on 460 stopping at the little towns along the way, read the signs dealing with the Civil war and the retreat of the confederate army, stop at the little cafe's and diners instead of the fast food joints. Try and make it to Lynchburg, a college town with a rather religious bent. See how polite everyone is.

Then onto Bedford the antique center and Finally Roanoke with its great little strip of night life with outdoor cafe's & restuarants. In the warmer months you can try North Carolina, try to visit & stay at some of the camp grounds and lakes. You might even try some of the gold panning and gem hunting sites in the Mountains....you'll have a blast and meet some great people.

Also look into checking out Tennessee, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, again avoid the big cities travel on the secondary roads never miss the opportunity to check out an antique show, a flea market, a county fair, a fireman's carnival an antique car show.

Good advice.
It's like people coming to Calif. and only stopping in SanFranfreako, thinking they just experienced the entire state.
Fact is, it's akin to visiting an insane asylum and thinking you just visited all hospitals in the US.

SanFranfreako was not bad 45 years ago.  You just had to be out of town by 5:00 P.M.

That's so true.  I've been all over CA and it's made up of thousands of little towns and big cities that have no resemblance to one another, and that includes the type of people living in them.
The danger to America is not Barack Obama but the citizens capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency.

Exactly! SF is nothing like it's neighbor San Jose, nor Sacto like it's neighbor Placerville, all literally alien states within a state.

I'm planning on visiting a few small cities in the area of Virginia Beach while I'm there.
Gonna be really necessary though. For some reason there's a majority of liberals wanting to fill out the survey but it lacks conservative respondents.
Anyone any idea why this trend?

Conservatives usually go about doing things. Libs spend their time fantasizing about how things should be without any idea of reality. Liberalism defies reality.

I gave you the answer, TEA.
Libs identify with the Dim party, Conservatives want to steal the GOP from the leftists.
You simply can't get a good feel for the situation when you have one group that's dumber than dirty laundry, and the other group trying to return to Founding principles.
