LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Scurry County Judge Dan Hicks has declared a disaster and is requesting assistance from the state after one of the strongest earthquakes in Texas history caused damage across the area Friday morning.
According to the USGS, a 5.1-magnitude quake occurred east of Snyder, northeast of Hermleigh. It was felt about 80 miles to the northwest in Lubbock, and across parts of the South Plains and West Texas. On the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale, the USGS shows a VI-Strong rating. The USGS again updated the magnitude, now to 5.1 as of 11 a.m. There were also aftershocks of 3.2 at 9:40 and 2.7 at 10:44.

hmm and Yellowstone is getting cranky.

Yep, and the New Madrid fault is acting up as well.
Not to mention all the "little" quakes in So Cal.

Be sure and always quote, otherwise I miss the post.
Yeah, something is changing...Too many quakes. I check my map several times a day.

The Right will hate me for this, but I said it was fracking from day one and I refuse to buy the lies.
Now, that 5.1 is a very different monster, one that would have occurred regardless, but the release of upper pressure, probably caused it to release tension building for a 1000 years or more.
But all these shallow quakes are no doubt because of the fracturing of the very upper crust, a hairs thickness on a global scale.
I guess it's a trade off, everyone wants cheap oil an gas, as long as the process doesn't affect them personally.
I remember driving into Martinez Ca. to the VA, closest around within 500 miles back in the early 70s.
They had a "Cracking" Plant? Spelling? Anyway, the smell was debilitating, smelled like a mix of rotten eggs and bacon burned in Sulphur.
That was the Bay Area then, but when the wind would shift out to sea, off shore, SF would throw a tantrum. They finally got Chevron to install scrubbers, then complained when they had to pay more for gas.
Now Chevron just told Ca to either STFU, or we're leaving, no more regs, we're done! I think Chevron will win and Nucelinni will claim clearer heads won. Meaning he lost! :bigl :bigl :bigl

Fracking, there's something I have not heard in a while. I thought it had been outlawed.

No, they're just keeping it out of the snooze.

This guy has had enough of fracking, he's moving. He researched what was going on.

Yea saw that. I appears they have changed "fracking", It is not as deep.

Yet the damage is still apparent.

My understanding, is not as deep is what is causing the earth quakes.

It's the insertion of water that breaks the crust that's causing the quakes. Depth only makes a difference on with fracture they hit.
Deeper drilling hits larger fractures, while shallow ones create smaller quakes.
Like all things, there's a sacrifice for cheap energy. These people should be compensated for damages and harm, it really is that simple.

none of which has anything to do with why the left wants to ban fracking. The key reason for banning fracking lies in the phrase "cheap energy".

Exactly Correct! It's why Ca won't allow it. We have the largest shale deposit in the country, possibly the world and they won't let us touch it.

No, I just woke up.
Thing is, it only seems to be an issue specific to the South, as in desert geology and geography for lack of plant life.
Either no one has noticed and kept their mouths shut, or it isn't reaching the surface in other parts of the world.
This was one of the arguments the Marxist Green party raised in Ca, problem is, we can actually recycle the water right back into the ocean and no would ever be bothered.
If Ca were to frack, it would possibly delay a bigger quake in the future, due to constant releases of tectonic surface pressure.
So while bad for Texas, good for Ca.
Keep in mind, the Texas Trib is a left leaner on many issue, in fact, this is posted under "Climate Change", as if there was ever a connection. But the Trib made one.
The Tribs CEO and Editor are known leftists, both taking the reins in 2022, created the first layoffs in the Tribs history a year later in 2023.
Think Pentagon after Obama took office and his purge of real leadership.
The left destroys everything it touches.

I love how these quakes always seem to shock geologists, as a "New Never Before seen Fault" is discovered.
The one in Ca isn't far from the San Andreas fault, and Grapevine and Bakersfield were rocked for hours, which has to be mind numbing as people become sleep deprived.
But watch the news as they claim it was a newly found fault they've never seen before.
I have news for them, the entire West coast is a series of faults, like fractured ice, some active, some dormant, but when the big one does hit, the entire valley will suffer, and flooding will follow. I chose high ground...

The weathermen act the same way when we hit a hundred degrees in August. It becomes THE HOTTEST EVER!!!!

We just broke a streak of 6 weeks 100+ in Ca, and the first week, it was all this hype about elderly and pets, seek cool places.
Then about the 2nd week in, it lost its hype.
Things went back to normal when people figured out that July in the Sac. is always fuckin hot in the valley.
I swear, it's as if the media is clinging on by a thread for viewership, they need that fear factor to keep people coming back.
Nah, that couldn't be it. :bigl :bigl :bigl
