This isn't about the US, this is about shooting down an airliner and arrogantly blaming the airline for the loss of life, and never once apologizing to the families affected.
It's that historical Russian arrogance that will always keep Russia down and the reason so many to date refuse to believe Putin has good intentions towards the rest of the world.
Don't kid yourself, no one here trusts Putin any further than they can throw him, but we are willing to move forward, as Reagan so eloquently stated, "Trust, but Verify".
Putin has a long way to go in gaining world trust, and owning the evils of the USSR would go a long way in repairing this distrust.

I definitely do not and I have never voted for him :) But without him, my country would be ripped apart by Islamists and at the end of the day (i mean in conclusion), he fiercely loves his motherland and acts accordingly, which I respect.

Your country loved Gorbachev but for us, he was a terrible leader, we did not understand why the West admired him so much. I know that Americans think that Gorbachev is the one who broke up Soviet Union but the fall didn't depend on just any one person.
Soviet Union was never financially sustainable, this is really the main reason. Free market is ideal for financial health, which we did not have.

Trust me, I tried explaining to some very liberal Canadian and American friends how my family and the rest of my country suffered during communism but they don't understand and don't want to know. As you can see by my Sig line FIGHTING COMMUNSIM SINCE 1969, that sums up my attitude. I began hating communism or rather communists back in the early 60's when as a child I sat with my family watching Nikita Kruschev on our tiny TV threatening us with his infamous "WE WILL BURY YOU SPEECH, My Mother and Sister frightened, my Father angry, I decided right then and there I would be a soldier and protect my country against these horrible people called Russians who seemed so determined to destroy us.
I got my chance at soldiering and saw up close and personal the savagery of the viet cong
communists who were mostly financed by THE SOVIET UNION. While my hatred of communism grew, I began to realize that the greatest threat was not the USSR or the Viet Cong but right in our own country with the Students for a democratic society that grew into terrorist groups like the
Weathermen, headed by Bills Ayers of Obamao fame.
These were the people who would turn our country into the USSR or worse, Cambodia and slaughter anyone who didn't agree with them. As they theselves later stated. They couldn't do it with force of arms so they began to do it by taking over our political system.
As I grew older I also began to realize that the Russian people were not my enemy, but the ideals of communism so contrary to our American ideals of freedom and independence, were. It helped that many of the Russian people I encountered during my life helped change my attitude and I admit I have a respect and even admiration for them/you
I can tell you that a lot of Americans my age, many of whom have served in the Military have this same attitude.
But recent years under Obamao have taught us who the real enemy is right here in our own country. You saw the result of that realization on Nov 8th 2016.
Now you may understand where many Americans are coming from. While I do not wish to revive the cold war and I do not wish to be an enemy of Russia, I realize how difficult that might be with someone like Mr Putin at the helm of your country.
He is a staunch communist and he wishes to reconstitute the former Soviet Union.
But at the end of the day I think it is better that we establish diplomatic relations and TRADE with Russia rather than point missile's at them. The Marxist idiots that were in power over the last eight years were incapable of this concept.

Our Founders recognized the dangers of Democracy, which is why we have a Republican form of govt, whereby the power is divided and diminished by three separate branches to keep watch over one another.
You never want the power to be with the majority and power to change law at a whim.

One thing I would like to point out that despite what your media writes, Putin is not a communist and he does not plan on trying to create anither Soviet Union, you may argue with me on this topic but I know that communism has nothing to do here, Putin knows that communism is not a viable reality. He is of'course not my leader of choice because I want true democratic elections but he is what we have FOR NOW.
Putin wants free market economy without foreign sanctions, he wants Russia to be financially (fiscally is the correct word I think) stable and prosperous. Putin regrets the way/manner Soviet Union fell but no, he is not planning on creating another one.
Well we have to agree to disagree on Mr Putin. In some ways many of us have respect for him. It is like watching a tiger or a grizzly bear in the wild, the strength and power is impressive and captivating, but you better not piss it off
I think you are right about a financially stable Russia, and that should be the goal here. A unstable Russia would mean chaos for Europe and Potential danger to the rest of the world, prolifiration of weapons and the potential for the Islamic states to obtain more nukes. I think that may be the best arguement for removing the sanctions which are doing nothing but injuring your economy.

Yeah, after millennia in observance of dictatorial rule by monarchism and the church, they knew the only govt that could work, was one where it's powers are chained like the beast it is.
It's why we have a bill of Rights, with powers granted by God to the people, that keeps our govt in check.
It may not be perfect by any means, but to date, it's the best system ever created.
The perfect system would be absent of govt altogether, but we know how that would go. :biggrin:

Out founding fathers were brilliant people who had learned from the oppression they came from. Unfortunately, too many of our citizens cannot comprehend this concept. Liberals hate the concept as they derive power from control and people who think for themselves are very dangerous to them.
