Coke A Barometer For Happiness?

I found this to be a bit interesting.
I know there are many things for measuring the economy, from cardboard box orders, to fashion, but soda sales?

So just how are we doing if this is true?

QuoteCoca-Cola would like consumers to believe that happiness can be bottled up in just 12 fluid ounces (355 milliliters) of sugary goodness. The company's soda advertisements pair its products with the most enjoyable times in life -- neighborhood cookouts, movie dates and hanging out with near and dear ones. In Africa, this Coke-happiness correlation may have more behind it than just marketing dollars. In times of war and political strife in recent years, Coke sales have dipped; when stability returned, so did the soda consumption [source: Economist].

Monitoring someone's Coke consumption isn't the most scientific way to gauge happiness. But the Africa anecdote is an example of the relationship between emotional states and behavior. It's well understood that our feelings often impact actions. Confidence, for instance, breeds socialization, and apathy fosters withdrawal.

Now the latest numbers on sales in the U.S..

QuoteAll of the big three beverage companies — Coca-Cola [KO  74.67    -0.89  (-1.18%)   ], PepsiCo  [PEP  68.50    -0.41  (-0.59%)   ], and Dr Pepper Snapple [DPS  42.22    -0.44  (-1.03%)   ] — sold lower volumes in the U.S., as sales of leading brands such as Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi-Cola, and Mt. Dew fell, according to Beverage Digest.

If what applies in Africa can be applied here, people are not happy in the least, which is a reflection on the economy, and an even bigger reflection on King Obama.

Apparently a number of Mexican enteprenuers are listed in Forbes precisely due to the coke/happiness correlation.

Interesting OP, though. It would seem logical that in times of war or political strife, the bare necessities would take precedent over "feel good" items; although there might also be an argument made that in hard times people eat more chips and consume more alcohol and sugars so they can feel good---at least about something.

Must be, I don't think the NYSE keeps track of illegal drug sales for profit.

I found the article to be a bit interesting, so I thought Id put it against US sales to see how we were doing as a happy Nation.
If true and the barometer is correct, Hussein will be out on his ass applying for a job at ACORN.

OK, using Coke as a measure is not really all that good of an indicator, but still indicative of an over all picture.

But lets take real numbers, like shipping containers.
Using this data, it would appear we are flat-lined, or in the least, not growing.

It is nice that some one besides me see it as a Depression.  The only thing keeping it from being call the 2nd Depression is the theft of the working taxpayers money.
