Solar and I looked at the traffic for https://news.conservativehardliner.com the other day and this sumbitch' is really growing at a steady clip.
I'm sort of excited about this one because I think there's a lot of potential to be a decent sized aggregator. People read news, and they tend to stick with a few sources if they go to an aggregator. From what we can tell in the analytics, people are coming back to use it, so I think we're dialing it in. I'll put it this way: it took about 2.5 years for Conservative Hardliner to get to where this aggregator is now in just a few months.
I think the simplicity works. The row format is like Zero Hedge, but without the thumbnail pics. It has the The Liberty Daily Drudge-like simplicity, but a single column (which will be two on the next version). We know simple, minimalist styles work, like with Hacker News (https://news.ycombinator.com), a very large high-traffic aggregator.
Currently, the articles are fresh, as we pull them from the sources as they're published. Whatfinger does that, and I think it really works, because you can trust you're getting the latest news and articles. Some aggregators leave stories around for days, and even a week. If we manually add an article that's over a day old, you at least know that from the published date.
We added a bunch of sources (just added 100percentfedup.com last night), and at this point when I'm too busy to add stories manually, it just continues to pull news from sources and continues to gain traffic, so stories we add manually (usually at the top in the red bullet points) are gravy. Not every single story pulled in the feeds is one I'd necessarily post, but that's OK; they're stories from conservative sources.
I see a good clip of traffic coming from this site, so keep using it and let me know if you have any ideas. Spread it around on the interwebs too to help us push it out. From what we're seeing, if someone uses it a few times, they keep coming back. Please also keep the feedback and ideas coming; it's been helping a lot.

That's the thing, I had 5 sites I always hit first when I got up, then I'd refresh the other 30 plus in my list, but now that we already pull from them, I don't need to do those immediately.
Now I can get all their breaking news in one spot, but I still go to the others for the side stories.
