Bill Would Give U.S. Government ‘Kill Switch’ in All New Cars

It's for the "Children" you know...  :sneaky:

A piece of legislation that was quietly included in the infrastructure bill signed by Biden would give the U.S. government access to a 'kill switch' linked to law enforcement in all new vehicles from 2026.

Under a section in the bill that talks about 'impaired driving technology', the new system would "passively monitor the performance of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired."

If a blood alcohol level above the limit is detected, the system would "prevent or limit motor vehicle operation."

In other words, a kill switch.

Of course this sort of thing is coming. Black box tech is already in a good many newer automobiles, and "kill switch" technology really isn't new. The automakers have passed on it because they know people don't want it. Too bad that doesn't seem to slow down our government.

For example, a news story out of Irvine, CA described how this technology was used following a DUI crash that killed two people.

QuotePolice investigators would later determine with the help on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette's on-board computer that the car was traveling at least 138 miles per hour as it approached Jamboree and Main.

Yep, right now it's just tattle tail chips, been that way for well over a decade, but if the left gets their way it'll be a nationwide kill switch if they want to use it.

People sleep peacefully at night because there are a few tough men prepared to do violence on their behalf.

A foolish man complains about his torn pockets.

A wise man uses it to scratch his balls.

Sure. That's why this shit has to be resisted tooth and nail. The left does what it does because it is what it is. We'd be fools to expect anything different.

Of course, for every such mandated circuit, there is a marvelously skilled automotive nerd somewhere who will demonstrate for us all how to by-pass the whole thing. And there will always be old farts like me who can get a motor to run with just the basics -- spark, air, and fuel. It's not a great feat to get around all the electronics to make the thing go. If the ChiComms or the Russkies ever get frisky with their nukes and stage an EMP detonation, I may suddenly become the most valuable guy in the county.

Yes, but this sort of thing is more like a thief in the night. Nobody is saying, "Sure! Stick a chip in my car!" So no one is putting a foot in for the body to follow.

It's the government, working in stealth mode, that wants to snatch the foot, the body, and the soul.

I have hope that those alive today won't sacrifice Freedoms for a little security.
In the past we could almost certainly count on the GOP to sell us out to the corporate left, but not anymore.

I am so torn about this.
I understand and agree with everything you are all saying, and yet...

Here in my town, Little Mexico, Pennsylvania, whites and blacks are now minorities.  It's basically a Sanctuary City for illegal Mexicans.
They are heavy drinkers.  They crash cars constantly. The police have been told to stand down with the Mexicans.  Unless it is murder, the cops will not detain or arrest any Mexican.  I have had 2 neighbors have their cars totaled by drunk Mexicans.  The cops sent the drunks on their merry way without so much as a ticket.  My neighbors had to go to the station several times and beg for a police report to turn into their insurance companies.  They finally got their reports, for which they had to pay a ridiculous amount of money.

If only there was a breathalyzer kill switch on the cars that drunk Mexicans drive...

See why I am torn?

Sounds like your problem in your town is lack of enforcement, and I doubt if the kill switch would be used on illegals. Remember, laws are not to protect us, they are to protect those in charge.
