This is just one of the reasons that I will not have a "smart phone". At the point where I can't purchase a flip phone, I will not have a cell phone.

I don't believe that it's "too soon"...
I'm at work so I can't click on the article in the OP. Is there a way to tell if you have that filth on your device?

Damn good question. I have no idea, I seldom use the damn thing, if ever.

I suppose they could always just plant it there after they arrested you for it anyway. I have a friend who's really good with tech I'll ask him if there are way to protect your devices from unauthorized downloads.

NOPE! If they want to install it on your phone, make it appear as if you've been accessing it hourly, there won't be much you can do about it.
I think most are safe, that is, unless you're an outspoken anti commie Patriot trying to take down the left...
OOOPS, never mind.

Yeah, they will find a way to crush the resistance.

It's called "tampering with evidence."
It's fabricating evidence.
They could arrest a targeted conservative,
seize the cell phone, download child porn onto it,
and a clever tech person could make it look like
the downloads happened BEFORE the arrest.
When being questioned, never agree with any broad statements, like
"Did you download everything that's on this phone?"
Reply with, "The phone has been out of my custody.
I have no control over what was put on it since then."
And have your lawyer enlist an expert witness who can testify that
images CAN be placed on the phone in a way that
makes it look like they were placed there long before they actually were.
Since most of these smartphones are made overseas anyway; they probably have back doors built into them by the CCP. For espionage, and embarrassing those they consider enemies.

Never thought of it that way before! You've just given me another reason to not have and never get a "smart phone"! The reasons just keep adding up!

They're looking on your computer too, it's just that the phones are usually personal and not shared, at least not as much as the home computer. I'm guessing the only reason we are being told is someone got caught snooping so they are trying to make it look like it is for our own protection. When ever I hear they are "doing it for the children" alarm bells go off.
